Mini-Review

Good

This bag caught my eye because it is completely black. At that time I was looking for a more discreet alternative to all the LV Neverfulls and the brown monogram logo in general. It is a beautiful bag that can be combined with all kinds of outfits. Originally I was afraid that it might be too big, but for me personally the size fits perfectly. The pattern has been embossed in good depth and is easily recognizable even from a distance. Stamp is also set correctly and easily recognizable. Small details such as company name on the zippers are also there, so I am completely satisfied with this bag!

Bad

I think the parcel was a bit too small for my bag. Due to the long transport route the shape of the bag was unfortunately affected. There were several dents on the bottom as well as on the sides, which I was able to fix by using weights and heat. In case you'd like to order this bag I'd recommend to ask for a bigger package and/or more stuffing.

Would I recommend this bag?

Yes. Absolutely. I am very happy with my bag and I ordered it in other colors because I like it so much. I can recommend both the bag and Linda as TS.

Lowered everything by a couple of bucks to make space for some hauls that are coming in soon. Will ship everything by Wednesday! Bundle Deals WILL be prioritized first. Venmo is prioritized but will take Paypal Gifted (I'm Vouched T1). Shipping depends on location but I’ll work with you on the costs. Tagged photos should be shown in each Imgur link below but timestamp for everything is here: (https://imgur.com/a/HA6nSOB). My goal is trying to be as transparent as possible and I tend to be really picky on QC and flaws unless stated. Thanks!

WILL BUY OR TRADE FOR:

Vouches: https://www.reddit.com/RepVouch/comments/7ld10g/jimmythecollector

Shirts:

Kobe Bryant Lakers Yellow Nike Jersey Tee - Medium - $18 + Shipping - Beautiful shirt that was copped off Taobao. Being a huge Kobe Fan I wanted to cop some vintage pieces that aren’t sold normally and found these on Tao. Keeping the one that fits like a large and want to sell this size medium. Great blanka and print to honor the legend himself. - https://imgur.com/a/XD3vYlE

CDG Logo Print Grey Tee - Fits Medium - $22 + Shipping - I use my grey Champion Kith shirt over this due to preference so I want to sell this piece. Fits great and print looks amazing as well, if you care more about accuracy this should definitely be something to consider over the heart patch tee’s from CDG if it’s not from Repbrothers. - https://imgur.com/a/Zy2RIsi

Mitchell and Ness 2009 Stephen Curry Throwback Satin Jersey - Small - $33 + Shipping - Brand new with tags. Recommended for someone skinny. From the best jersey rep maker IMO which is Terry and took around 45 days to come to USA. Extremely beautiful jersey with stitching that is on point and I would keep if it wasn’t so snug on me. - https://imgur.com/a/KjQSq4h

Kith x Champion Rainbow Tee - Fits Medium - $30 + Shipping - Lightly used rep. I think retail goes for an absurd amount ($200) which I’ve compared this batch too and turns out the rep is really good. Tags, champion embroidered patches, and logo on the front all seem good and this is an extremely accurate rep. - https://imgur.com/a/9wwT1oY

Saint Laurent Paris Blood Luster Tee - Fits Medium - $27 + Shipping - Obtained a few months back in one of my hauls. Fits perfect IMO and the material is sort of a Nike Dri-Fit perfect for the warmer days. Tags look fine and print looks okay although I’ve never eyed retail before. - https://imgur.com/a/cDYzYpJ

Cotton Candy Guess ASAP Tee - Small (Fits Medium) - $26 + Shipping - Used once and is from UK which quality speaks for itself. Pretty much a staple piece of FR now lol. Selling to cop a different colorway off Tao. - https://imgur.com/a/WkJd8fB

RETAIL Guess ASAP Striped Ringer Tee - Small - $72 + Shipping - Don’t get me wrong, the reps are extremely accurate but this was a grail piece for a while so I copped retail at around 90 bucks on Grailed. Wear it less often now so I’m deciding to sell but if any repfam wants this take it for a steal price. - https://imgur.com/a/4AMLG7z

Jackets/Crewnecks:

Palace Clubhouse Embroidered Cream Crewneck Union Kingdom - Large - $50 + Shipping - Absolutely beautiful piece by UK who killed it on the release. Extremely accurate to retail, I personally can’t tell any difference. Printed tags look perfect and overall if you need a clean designed crewneck, this is def a cop. Def heavier than normal crewnecks so freight on this was pretty crazy, get it in two days shipped from me lol. - https://imgur.com/a/CqQmOem

Kith x Iceberg Mickey Fantasia Crewneck White - Medium - $65 + Shipping - Bought about a year ago and wore it once to Disneyland. Ended up getting a ton of compliments when I went with my girl at the time, but I don’t really wear this anymore since I have a cream Guess x ASAP crewneck that I wear more. - https://imgur.com/a/kuygraP

Vetements “May the Bridges I Burn Light the Way” - Fits Oversized Medium - FOR TRADE (Check Tradelist Above) - I know there’s a few batches out of this hoodie which are pretty sought after but after comparing this to retail there are a few minor flaws to address. Stitching on the back hood is a bit cleaner on Retail but needless to say looks really great on the reps. Front print font on retail is a bit thicker. That being said this is an amazing batch and the fit is identical to retail while the blank is extremely soft like a Terry cotton. - https://imgur.com/a/nXDzLxb

Northface Denali White/Silver Jacket - Fits Medium - $38 + Shipping - Bought this around a year ago and wore very lightly as it dosen’t get cold in Cali as much. The front zipper pocket is stuck and there is a yellow stain on the sleeve that will come off with a wash and dipping vinegar IMO. Despite this it is an extremely beautiful piece and if you’re able to justify the cop, you won’t be disappointed. - https://imgur.com/a/pIpDBFn

Retail Mennace Crew Neck All-Black - Fits Medium - $23 + Shipping - New and never worn. Has super light stains from storage but a quick wash will get this in new condition again. Crewnecks of this brand sell for $60 regularly on ASOS. I want to let it go for a steal as I have too many crewnecks at the moment. Take it for 33% the price of retail. - https://imgur.com/a/R7kc6Pz

CWHAT Grey Hoodie - Fits Medium - $24 + Shipping - I’ve copped a ton of hoodies off Tao from blanks like these to $100+ batches from Reon. These are extremely comfortable and are definitely the best bang for your buck. Pretty thick and extremely soft blanks with a FOG imitated design, these are a must cop. - https://imgur.com/a/DTdFA6F

Pants and Shorts:

Retail Mamba Academy Nike Shorts - Small (Fits Waist Size 28-34 and Length is 49cm) - $61 + Shipping - These are brand new and never used. Bought for 80 dollars in total with tax from https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nike-Mamba-Sports-Academy-Kobe-Bryant-Black-Dri-Fit-Authentic-Shorts-Small/303626578269?hash=item46b18de95d:g:CGUAAOSw9lVfEj~8 and they are hella comfy but I have other shorts that I rather use atm. Beautiful piece and take it for a small discount than what I bought it for. - https://imgur.com/a/Uhw3RUT

Nike x Toon Squad Lebron James DNA Shorts - Fits Waist Size 28-32 (Small) - $33 + Shipping - When I saw these retail I had to find a rep online. Still paid a good amount because I think all of Tao just taxes for Just Don shorts lmao. The quality and feel of these is exactly like retail IMO and these are a nice cop. - https://imgur.com/a/X3jaSr8

Kith x Russell Baby Blue Shorts - Fits Waist Size 28-32, Length is 18 Inches - $26 + Shipping - This is a LoveMedusa batch. Amazing quality as LM’s quality speaks for herself but her shipping times are straight trash. Hella soft and comfy and perfect for the summer weather. - https://imgur.com/a/a1FbBYG

Nike Elite White/Black Shorts 2.0 - Fits Waist Size 28-32 (Small) - $18 + Shipping - Thick pair of shorts which look amazing in my opinion. With summer still going strong these are an amazing look for the summer. - https://imgur.com/a/7raYOEq

Nike Dri-Fit Blue Shorts with Zipper Pocket - Fits Waist Size 28-32 (Small) - $24 + Shipping - Thick pair of shorts which look amazing in my opinion. The third zipper always comes in a clutch for a portable charger or keeping my phone in when walking around busy streets. - https://imgur.com/a/YqtTF09

FEAR OF GOD Essentials Shorts Tan - Fits Waist Size 28-32 (Small) - $24 + Shipping - Thick pair of shorts which look amazing in my opinion. With summer still going strong these are an amazing look for the summer. - https://imgur.com/a/O4eKCEg

Nike Grey/Green Zippered Shorts - Fits Waist Size 28-34, Length is 19 Inches - $24 + Shipping - Brand new and never worn before. Too long for my liking but overall these shorts look extremely sick IMO and my loss from Tao is your gain. - https://imgur.com/a/VKQBZMQ

Retail Calvin Klein Zipper Joggers - Fits Waist Size 28-30 / Length 35.2 Inches - $13 + Shipping - Sell for 60 bucks at the outlet, take it for 14. - https://imgur.com/a/bjCGYfY

Pacsun Vintage Black Trousers - 28x30 - $9 + Shipping - Slightly Used, paid around 35 bucks for these from Pacsun a few months back but have outgrown them. Fit like a normal pair of trousers and will look dope with any shoe - https://imgur.com/a/lNgVAcg

Shoes:

CHANNEL x PHARRELL Black Loafers - Fits Size 7.5-8 - $75 + Shipping - Bought a year ago from Taobao and hate to sell but I just can’t keep forcing my size 8.5-9 feet in these. The leather is quite nice and they have been worn once to a wedding but have been stored ever since. No insole inside so I recommend inserting a Dr. Scholls and these will be extremely comfy. The letters hold up quite nice and man these would be my daily loafers if they fit my foot. Perfect if you're a size 7.5-8 and I recommend adding these to your collection. - https://imgur.com/a/pLPLsnv

Yeezy Powerphase OG - Size 8.5 (Fits 9) - $42 + Shipping - Bought these at the same time I bought some Chicago’s off Will. Came with StockX tag and box which I discarded and these shoes have only been worn less than 5 times. - https://imgur.com/a/cOIbQHn

Nike Element 87 Thunder Blue/Total Orange - Size 9.5 - $37 + Shipping - Used twice but to it’s not my kinda shoe. Pretty sick and breathable design while the color is really eye popping IMO. I don’t have the original laces on the shoe but I discounted the cost if you want to buy replacement ones as well, or I can add some laces with these shoes if you want. - https://imgur.com/a/bI53Ovr

NASA Vans Old Skools Space White - Size 9 TTS - $55 + Shipping - Paid close to 95 shipped for these bad boys off Tao from a seller who did a limited production of these shoes. These were actually my grails and I tried to cop retail but missed out. I wear nikes for most of my shoes now and due to the nature of my work, so take these for a nice deal. These still have a lot of life left in them and a nice clean will leave these in amazing condition. - https://imgur.com/a/PywL6hD

Retail ZO2 Showtime Laker Slides - Size 9.5 - $99 or Trade + Shipping - Brand new and deadstock, will trade for anyone with a size 9 but since these are pretty rare and that’s highly unlikely I’m down to trade for any of the items mentioned above. - https://imgur.com/a/truROs0

Kyrie Irving 4’s London PE - Fits (8.5-9) - $65 or Trade + Shipping - Brand new and never used. Looks extremely accurate to me and analyzing the build of this vs my retail Kyrie 3’s these are definitely more plush and would be more suitable for walking/jogging around and maybe some light basketball activities. Trying to trade for some Kobe’s or anything mentioned above. - https://imgur.com/a/SIiHlRy

Retail Vans Red Checkered Old-Skools - Size 8.5 - $26 + Shipping - Used for two months before I got into reps, Bought at 70 shipped so get it for a great deal. - https://imgur.com/a/Yy9dJ13

Retail Jordan XX8 SE All-Stars - Size 9 - $26 + Shipping - Used to hoop in but still have a lot of life left in them. Sick shoe that sells for around 200 dollars new so take this for a steal! - https://imgur.com/a/GGS2yCQ

Accessories:

RETAIL ASSC x Playboy Hat - OOS - $63 + Shipping - Took a hella long time to ship. Worn once but I have other black hats I would rather wear so I’m looking to sell this. Hasn’t been posted on Grailed in a while so I just took comps from 2 years ago and lowered it a bit. - https://imgur.com/a/RaaX2Wo

Supreme Beach Ball Inflatable - OOS - $18 + Shipping - If your someone who cares about accuracy skip those budget batches with the wrong font and no registered logo and cop this one. Very accurate to retail and overall this is the best batch out afaik. - https://imgur.com/a/bgBUjRt

Silver .925 Bracelet from Taobao - 8 Inches - $23 + Shipping - Bought these a few months back but I have another daily beater bracelet that I rather use. Fits amazing and gets a lot of glances. Not sure if real silver but the Tao store had a lot of reviews and the magnetic clasp works perfectly. - https://imgur.com/a/eNGYAZU

Jacquemus Le Bob Artichaut Bucket Hat - OOS - $43 + Shipping - Straight grail but when I ordered this and my Ralph Lauren Tan bucket hat, I solely wore the RL one due to preference. Still in brand new condition and is sold out from We Margiela now. - https://imgur.com/a/YsY817a

North Carolina Light Blue Visor - Adjustable - $9 + Shipping - Sick visor, swear I bought before watching The Last Dance. Just kidding lmao, has been used for a few months this summer but take it for 33% the cost of what I bought it for ($30+tax). - https://imgur.com/a/l7WEjbf

Rimowa iPhone (?) Case - Check Dimensions in Imgur Below - $23 + Shipping - Bought this from Taobao for my iPhone 11 but it’s too small to fit it lmao. I wish I saw this before I decided to ship my haul out but neither me or my agent spotted this lmao. I have dimensions in the imgur if you want to check what size iPhone it fits. Hella quality case though. - https://imgur.com/a/IhVOj7Z

Louis Vuitton Monogram Colors Bracelet - OOS - $83 + Shipping - I’ve actually owned two of these and sold the other one first because it fit my wrist too big and had slight color variations. Deciding to sell this because I have a magnetic bracelet I use more. Unsure of where I bought from but has been worn for around a month. Still in amazing condition and always gets a ton of compliments when out and about. Measures around 8.25 Inches in length. - https://imgur.com/a/CGmMuxN

Raybans Sunglasses Round Green from Aookoo - OOS - $40 + Shipping - Bought from Aookoo and used for a week but I used my pink and black pair more. Waited 2 months for this to come but well worth the wait, Aookoo’s quality speaks for itself with the UV proc and overall is my go to for all shades. - https://imgur.com/a/jNp2Hc9

Raybans Sunglasses Blaze Round from Aookoo - OOS - $35 + Shipping - Bought from Aookoo and used for a week but I used my pink and black pair more. Waited 2 months for this to come but well worth the wait, Aookoo’s quality speaks for itself with the UV proc and overall is my go to for all shades. Logo on the sides are flipped upside down hence the slight discount even though in amazing condition. - https://imgur.com/a/Vuhq3YH

Maison Margiela “Hand of God” Black Tee - Large (Fits Medium) - For Trade (Check Tradelist Above) - Grail piece that has recently made a comeback on DesignerReps. 2020.09.11 08:30 TheOminousDarkness Girl Scout Cookies

🎵 DING-DONG! 🎵
Despite the clearly labeled sign affixed to his front door meant to discourage solicitors, Gregory Kinkaid had become accustomed to salesmen and Jehovah's Witnesses that obviously couldn't take a fucking hint. However, he somehow knew his visitor that day was none of the above. He took another deep swig from a sweating can of Pabst Blue Ribbon and listened, anticipating the deep and rich tones of the doorbell ringing again. He began to whisper to himself, counting down: "Three… two..."
🎵 DING-DONG! 🎵
He arose from his threadbare plaid recliner and half walked, half stumbled to the door, knowing that when he yanked it open he would probably find a damn Girl Scout hawking her cookies. Yesterday, he'd seen a small table set up outside Wal-Mart, surrounded with little girls in their uniforms swapping boxes of thin-mints for cash. He'd successfully dodged them, but he couldn't forever. Although nothing irritated him more than unwanted company, he always answered the door on the small chance that Publisher's Clearing House would pay him a visit with an over-sized check and a television crew.
It really was hard to tell the little bitches no. They were so cute in their little uniforms, freshly pressed by their over-protective and sexually-frustrated soccer moms. He paused for a moment allowing himself another deep drag of his cigarette, unlocked the door, and pulled it open.
And there she stood, little Suzy Derkins. She was as cute as a button, how could anyone refuse her overpriced and overrated snacks?
Her curly red hair bounced as she rocked back and forth on her heels, her jade-green eyes twinkled in the bright sunlight, and she wore a smile that could melt the heart of the Devil himself. Parked next to her was a small, red wagon. It was heavily laden with boxes of various cookies.
"Hi, Mister Kinkaid, it's me, Suzy!" she said cheerfully. She brought her right hand up and gave him a little side-to-side wave that threatened to destroy him with cuteness overload.
"I know you said last year that you didn't want any cookies this year but I thought maybe since we have new cookies maybe you would like to try them and if I sell enough I can earn my badge and then I can go on the camping trip and my mom said that since your wife died I shouldn't bother you but I think you will like the new cookies!" -She said all of this in one breath, without pause. When she finished, she beamed at him with the innocence and vigor of her age, which he figured was about nine or ten.
He flicked his cigarette into the yard, turned his head and coughed, then spat over the porch railing.
"New cookies, you say?" He asked in a gravelly smoker's voice. His wife Helen had always hated his smoking, but she'd lived with it. When she'd been diagnosed with lung cancer, he'd thought it might have been his fault, but the doctors had assured him that cancer had nothing to do with his half-pack-a-day habit. Besides, he'd never smoked in the house or in the car, or anywhere near Helen for that matter. It wasn't until after she'd passed that he allowed himself to enjoy his guilty little pleasure inside. It had been almost six months since Helen had gone to meet Jesus, and he knew she was watching from Heaven so he tried to be as polite as she wanted him to be.
"Yep! And they're low-fat, too! Would you like to try one?" She batted her eyelashes at him hopefully.
"What kind of cookies are they, Suzy? Last year I got some of those caramel cookies, and I spent almost a whole day on the shi-" He stopped mid-sentence, realizing he was about to embarrass himself and this precious little girl with his recollection of an evening spent glued to the commode shitting his brains out. He backtracked quickly, stammering.
"Uh, Suzy… you know, they um… well? The thing is, you know, they uh, made me sick, sweetie. These new ones aren't going to make me sick, are they? What kind you got now?" He gestured uncomfortably towards the wagon.
"Oh! Mister Kinkaid, I'm so sorry to hear that! My daddy gets sick when he drinks too much wine, which is like, all the time." She looked at her feet as she shuffled them, and then brightened again, meeting his eyes. "These new cookies are the best! They're Koko Kookie Krunchys, and they're sooo good! I ate almost a whole box all by myself yesterday!"
He eyed her warily. "A whole box, you say? Spoiled your supper, I'd wager. You got samples?"
She giggled. "Of course! You wanna try one?"
"Yeah, why not? You're such a good saleswoman, you've talked me right into it!" He gave her a sly grin and waited as she began to rummage through the wagon. When she found the box she was looking for, he was amused to see that the Girl Scouts had upped their game. Gone was the usual bland cardboard. This package was shiny and multicolored; almost like new chrome muffler of a motorcycle that has begun to take on a rainbow-like hue. The side of the box was embossed in large, garish golden print that read: KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS. Two cartoon Girl Scouts were laughing comically and high-fiving with cookies in their other hands.
Suzy fumbled with the flaps of the packaging, then offered the box to Gregory. He peered down inside and saw two neat stacks of what appeared to be miniature chocolate chip cookies. He gingerly reached inside and plucked a cookie from the plastic tray in which it had been nestled. It looked like a smaller version of the popular Chips Ahoy! cookies, and he was certain it would probably taste about the same.
He gave it a perfunctory sniff, an odd quirk that he'd picked up from his mother. He always sniffed everything before he ate or drank it, the only exception being his beer. He trusted Pabst. He tossed the cookie into his mouth and was pleasantly surprised. The texture was indeed crunchy, but not overly so. It seemed to him that some snack foods were intentionally designed to destroy the roof of your mouth. For this reason alone, he couldn't enjoy corn flakes or Doritos as Helen had.
The flavor was much more intense than he'd imagined. Instead of the dull hint of chocolate that he'd come to expect from packaged cookies, this flavor was robust and bright. The chocolate chips melted slowly, flooding his mouth with a rich sweetness that was mildly intoxicating. He chewed slowly, savoring the treat until finally he swallowed it down, licked his lips, and smiled at Suzy.
"Young lady, that is by far the best cookie I've ever had! I'll take a box right now!" He began to reach into his back pocket for his wallet. "How much?"
"These new cookies are ten dollars per box." She said. "Because they're limited edition." She said this proudly, grinning shrewdly.
"Ten dollars?! For a single box of cookies? That's outrageous!" He began to tuck his wallet back into his pocket.
"Yeah, Mister Kinkaid, I know. I've heard that a lot since we started selling them, but everyone sure does like them. I really want to go on this year's camping trip, and if I sell my share I can. Are you sure you don't want a box?" she asked breathlessly, sounding quite dejected. Her wide, green eyes seemed to be brimming with tears. Was she going to cry? Surely not. Over a box of cookies? Then she bit her bottom lip, and that made him feel like shit. He could imagine his dead wife standing beside him, scolding him for being such a cheap bastard. Hell, now that he thought about it, Helen would have probably bought two boxes. One for themselves, and one to share with her book club over tea. Besides, what was ten bucks, anyway? Christ, a meal at McDonald's costs that much, he reasoned, and a Big-Mac with fries and a Coke couldn't hold a candle to these deliciously intoxicating cookies.
"You know what, Suzy? I'll take two boxes. How's that?" He reached again for his wallet.
"Oh, wow! That's great, Mister Kinkaid! Thank you so much!" She was almost bouncing with joy as she carefully selected two of the radiant boxes from her wagon and placed them into a plastic bag with the Girl Scout logo boldly emblazoned upon it. He fished a crisp twenty-dollar bill from his wallet, and once she'd handed him the bag, he forked over the cash.
"Thank you, Mister Kinkaid! I hope you enjoy them!" She smiled broadly, and before he could respond, she turned to make her way along the sidewalk to the next house, her little red wagon trundling obediently behind her. She turned to give him a little wave as she went, and he couldn't help chuckling at the realization that sweet little Suzy had most likely just talked him into buying some cookies. Yet, he raised his own hand and waved back.
He shuffled into the kitchen and deposited one of the boxes on the counter. He broke another Pabst from its plastic collar and returned to his recliner with the cold beer and the other box of cookies. He pressed the play button on the remote and resumed the black-and-white western he'd been watching. Then he began to nibble on KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS.

---

The next morning, Gregory awoke with a massive hangover and an insatiable craving for more of those unbelievably tasty KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS. He'd passed out in the recliner and was dismayed to find the crumpled remains of one of the cookie boxes on the coffee table. He picked up the box and peered inside, hoping that maybe he hadn't actually eaten all of the cookies, but knowing he had. He ventured into the kitchen on unsteady legs, remembering that he'd thrown the first empty box away, so he began to rummage through the trash thinking - no, praying – that he might find one single cookie that he might have missed. No luck.
The more time that passed, the more consumed he became with his desire, his need, for more of those fucking cookies. He threw every cupboard door open in the kitchen, delirious with the idea that maybe any cookie would suffice, but he came away empty-handed, rewarded only with some stale graham-crackers and a box of raisins that had expired back when Obama was President.
Completely contrary to logic, he walked out of his front door un-showered and wearing yesterday's wrinkled clothes. He impatiently slid behind the driver's seat of his Subaru Forrester. He knew goddamned well where to find those cookies, and that's exactly where he was going to go.
Twenty minutes later, he parked near the front doors of Wal-Mart and hastily hung his handicapped tag from the rear-view mirror. As he left the car, he caught sight of the same table that he'd seen a few days ago, and it appeared to be completely swamped with people clamoring for cookies.
He hobbled towards the table, still a little shaky from last night's overindulgence, and became one with the throng of arguing and shouting people that surrounded it. He could see through the flailing arms and angry faces that there were only a few of the shiny boxes left, and he feared that maybe he'd arrived too late. When he finally managed to work his way to the front of the crowd, he was relieved to see that there was a handsome stockpile of the cookies stacked neatly behind the girls and their mothers stationed there.
"What do you want, mister?" A pug-nosed and overweight freckle-faced girl in her early teens leered at him.
"I'd like to have five boxes of Koko Kookie Krunchys, please." He said sheepishly, feeling rather foolish.
Freckle girl nodded and smiled knowingly. "Five boxes, coming right up! Would you like a paper or plastic bag, sir?"
"Oh, um, I suppose paper is fine, thanks," he answered timidly, "better for the environment and all that." He knew that he really shouldn't be here, buying these cookies. What would Helen think of this? He quickly brushed the thought aside, reasoning that Helen would have wanted him to be happy, and knowing she'd never have denied him something as innocent as Girl Scout cookies. He reminded himself that Helen was a firm believer in donating to charities, and supporting good causes. Why, yes, she would have completely approved.
Freckle girl had neatly stacked five shiny boxes of KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS into a paper bag and slid them across the table towards him. She held her hand out, palm up, and said, "That will be one hundred dollars, please!" She smiled widely, revealing teeth stained dark brown presumably from stuffing her fat little face with the cookies she was supposed to be selling. He didn't quite grasp what she'd just said to him.
"Excuse me, how much?" he asked.
"One hundred dollars, sir." Freckle girl replied impatiently.
"ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS?" He nearly shouted in reply. "Where on earth did you come up with that amount?"
"Sir, " she said impatiently, "you asked for five boxes of Koko Kookie Krunchys. They're twenty dollars per box. Five boxes at twenty dollars per box is one hundred dollars. Basic math, or don't you understand?" She waggled the fingers of her outstretched hand.
"No," he returned, "I understand, but you must be mistaken. Yesterday I bought two boxes from Suzy Derkins, and they were ten dollars per box, and if you ask me, that's highway robbery for a box of cookies." He planted his hands firmly on his hips. "They're ten dollars per box, and that's what I will pay."
"I'm sorry sir, but that was yesterday. Today, the price is twenty dollars per box." Freckles answered, amused and undeterred.
"And what makes you think anyone is going to pay twenty dollars for a box of goddamned cookies?" He shot back angrily.
"Sir, I don't appreciate your language! Now, look behind you. There's a line of people waiting for these cookies, and if you don't want them for this price, I'll be happy to sell them to someone else that will." She was now grinning menacingly, knowing she had the upper hand.
Gregory slowly turned around to see that a line of people had formed behind him. A tall, lanky man with thick eyeglasses in a cheap gray suit tapped him on the shoulder and said: "I'll take them if you don't want them. They're simply amazing! Worth every penny!"
Gregory's mouth went slack. He was dumbfounded. The craving for the cookies increased tenfold when he saw the meandering line of haggard and impatient people behind him, gawking and waiting to get their hands on his cookies. He quickly turned back to the fat freckled girl.
"Fine. I'll take them. But tell me, why has the price gone up?" He begged.
She narrowed her eyes shrewdly. "Supply and demand, sir. You demand them and we supply them. Basic economics, or don't you understand that either?"
He reluctantly tugged his wallet out of his rear pocket and tweezed two crisp fifties from inside. He placed them in her grubby little hands, returned his wallet to his pocket, and pulled the bag against his chest protectively. He stared at her for a moment and then quickly added, nearly in a whisper: "You should be ashamed of yourself!"
As he turned and began to walk away, Freckles tittered cheerfully as she waved after him, "Thank you for supporting your local Girl Scouts, sir!"
Gregory eased behind the wheel of his Subaru, but before he fastened his seat-belt he yanked a box of KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS from the bag. He frantically tore open the packaging and quickly shoved three cookies into his mouth. As he chewed, he closed his eyes and moaned softly, ecstatic with the flavor of them and suddenly high on the endorphins they'd released. The rush he felt was comparable to the first orgasm he'd ever had. He began to remember it vividly as the cookies dissolved upon his tongue: He and his high school sweetheart under the bridge that passed over the creek next to the high school, her warm mouth working magic on him that he'd never imagined. When he came, his legs had quivered and he'd thought that if only he could feel like that forever then he could conquer the world. As he came back to reality and swallowed that first mushy mouthful of cookie, he was surprised and somewhat embarrassed to find that he'd become somewhat aroused. That little trouser mouse hadn't stirred in years and now, here in his car in a crowded Wal-Mart parking-lot, he felt the overwhelming desire to reach down the front of his pants and take hold of himself.
"What the flying fuck, Greg?" It was Helen.
Except, it wasn't. Not the real Helen, anyway. No, this was the Helen that sat on one shoulder, reminding him to take his pills on time, and not to drink too much or to flip off shitty drivers in shittier traffic. This was the Helen that spoke to him when he needed her the most.
"What the… Jesus, Greg." He whispered aloud. A bottle of water sat in the cup-holder, and now he seized it and unscrewed the cap. He guzzled half of it down before coming up for air. A thin sheen of sweat had broken out on his forehead, and he leaned forward in the seat and examined his face in the rear-view mirror.
He chuckled at himself. "Gregory, you sir have lost your fucking marbles!" He took a deep breath, and crammed three more cookies into his mouth before speeding home.

---

As he extricated himself from the Subaru, he brushed crumbs off of his shirt and wiped his mouth on his sleeve. From Wal-Mart to his home was only seven miles, and in that short journey he'd scarfed down an entire box of cookies. He found himself suddenly possessed with vigor and motivation. Before he knew it, he'd cleaned the kitchen, the living room, the bathroom, and was busily sweeping out the garage when he was finally overcome with hunger. He glanced at his watch and found that it was nearly five in the evening. He'd been moving non-stop for nearly eight hours straight.
He hadn't felt this good in ages, and at first, he was a little shaken by the sudden burst of energy. If this were any other day he would have spent the majority of his time in the recliner, or in one of the rocking chairs on the front porch, sipping beer and swatting at houseflies. For a man of his age, the aches and pains of a rapidly deteriorating body were expected, and he hadn't been spared. But today, if he weren't nearly starving he could have kept on going until the sun had set. He leaned the broom against the wall of the garage and headed for the kitchen. As he passed through the breezeway, it occurred to him that he felt none of the usual aches and pains in his joints. In fact, he felt great. He half-joked to himself that there might be a connection between his sudden spurt of energy and those chocolate chip cookies, but of course he knew better than that.
He stood before the refrigerator, one arm perched atop the open door. His options were somewhat limited. There was leftover pizza, now three days old. A pot of chili he'd made almost a week ago that probably should have been thrown out by now. A case of Pabst with a few cans missing. Most of the time, he simply picked up something from one of the fast-food joints in town, or he'd order delivery. If only Helen were still alive, the fridge would be full of various snacks and leftovers, but he just didn't spend that much time in the kitchen. It didn't feel right to him. This was her domain.
He shut the refrigerator door and yanked open the freezer. He was hoping to find some Hot-Pockets or a Hungry-Man dinner, but there was nothing inside except two empty ice trays (he never used ice, so why bother filling them?) and some frozen venison that his neighbor had given him after he'd returned from his last hunting trip. He was hungry now, and he began to regret that he hadn't picked up some rations when he'd already been right there at Wal-Mart blowing money on stupid cookies...
He eyed the paper bag that sat on the end of the small table in the little alcove that Helen had lovingly referred to as "The Breakfast Nook." He always found the nickname kind of funny, because neither of them had spent much time enjoying breakfasts in there. Her sewing machine and skeins of cloth and a wicker-basket full of supplies occupied most of the table. Other than the paper bag full of KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS, he hadn't so much as touched a single item on that table since his dear Helen had died. Looking at it now, he felt a pang of regret. They should have enjoyed some meals there. Hell, when they'd bought this house fifty years ago, she'd been so excited about it. She'd painted it salmon (he said pink) and had stenciled birds along the top edges of the walls. Above the table, he'd hung a miniature chandelier that she'd found at a yard sale not long after they'd moved in. She'd really spent a lot of time making that little niche comfortable and cute and welcoming, and he wondered now if he'd ever thanked her for it. Damn it, he missed her so much.
His stomach growled noisily, and he remembered why he'd come to the kitchen in the first place. He was hungry, and there just wasn't much to eat in the house. It appeared that a second trip to Wal-Mart was in order. He needed to take a quick shower and put on some clean clothes, but first, he needed to satisfy the emptiness in his belly. He reached down inside the bag and withdrew one of the boxes. He tore open the packaging and removed the plastic tray inside. He pinched three or maybe four (who was counting?) cookies between his fingers and shoved them into his watering mouth. As he began to chew, he desperately wished for milk, but beer would do. With a mouthful of cookies still crunching in his mouth, he returned to the fridge and yanked a can of PBR from the case. The tab popped with a satisfying psshhh! and he drained it in several deep chugs.
He tossed the can into the recycling bin, and against his better judgment returned for another beer. He cracked it open, shoved five more cookies into his mouth and chewed them hastily. Again, washing them down with cheap suds. He belched loudly, finished the beer and dashed off for the shower. An hour later he was behind the wheel of the Subaru for the second time that day. Nestled between his legs, a box of KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS disappeared three at a time.
By the time he arrived, he'd completely finished the box, yet he was still insatiably hungry. He found another parking spot near the front of the store and wasn't surprised to see the same little table parked near the entrance, surrounded by cookie junkies. Determined not to fall victim to the wily Girl Scouts and their damnable wares, he decided to walk down to the other entrance. Besides, it was closer to the grocery section.
He hustled inside at a sprightly pace. The pep that the cookies provided surely wouldn't last much longer, so he figured he'd better make the most of the visit while he was there. He walked through the motion-activated sliding doors, took a few steps and then suddenly stopped. What he saw before him was bewildering beyond comprehension: Just inside, in the small area reserved for coin-operated games and soda machines, those fiendish little bitches had erected not one, but two more tables and both were clearly covered with nothing more than KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS.
The flavor and residue of the cookies he'd eaten on the way still remained on his tongue, yet his mouth began to water, much like Pavlov's dogs. People were crowded restlessly around the tables waving fistfuls of cash. He gave the table and the junkies a wide berth and made his way towards the microwaveable dinners.
By the time he finished his shopping, he'd nearly forgotten about the potential fiasco that lurked near the front doors. He simply couldn't justify spending another red cent on cookies, and as much as he'd enjoyed the spurt of energy that had come from them, he had no intention of ever buying another box. But it's no secret that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
After paying for his purchases, he continued to the exit. He could see that there were still quite a few people clustered there, so he made the rash decision to exit the store through the garden center. Yes, it was a longer walk, but what of it? He still felt rather well, and the additional exercise surely couldn't hurt.
What he hadn't anticipated was the large rental truck parked right outside the garden center doors, packed completely full with nefarious Girl Scout cookies, and a veritable platoon of young girls, all in uniform. They were literally selling cookies out of the back of the large box truck, like a street thug hawking stolen electronics.
He made his way through the throng of people that had gathered around the truck and rushed to his car. He looked over his shoulder several times, in awe of the strange sight. People were arguing, cursing, and it appeared that two younger women were squaring off to fight. What had gotten into people? Surely there was enough to go around, right? He thought about the three remaining boxes nestled comfortably in the brown paper bag at home. His mouth began to salivate, and he was suddenly overcome with a gnawing and maddening need. A need that must be met.
He released the trunk lid of his Subaru, quickly packed the groceries inside, and walked the buggy to one of the corrals near the box truck. He joined the small crowd of people and waited for his turn.
An hour later he'd finally made it to the front of the line. He wasn't the least bit concerned about the frozen (but now most likely completely thawed) microwave dinners and three piss-warm cases of beer in his trunk. All he could seem to focus on was his singular need to get his hands on those goddamned cookies. It briefly occurred to him that it would've been much faster to simply get back in the car and drive home to get his fix. But that wasn't important. What was important was that there must be a reason for the frantic demand of the cookies. Hadn't Suzy said they were a limited-edition or something? He was reminded of the McRib for some reason. He'd only tried the sandwich once in his life, and that was enough. The truth about the McRib was that it was one of the worst sandwiches that McDonald's offered, but people fucking loved it. Why was that? It was because it was only available a few times per year. And people just had to have something when they knew it wouldn't be available later. It was a phenomenon that applied to just about everything. The newest television? Gotta have it. A brand new iPhone with thirty-five cameras and a built-in coffee maker? Name your price, Apple, I'm buying it. It really was a disturbing and-
"Sir?"
He blinked in the bright sunlight, momentarily confused. A tall and skinny pimply-faced girl of about thirteen was looking at him as if he were a rack of yard-tools at the Home Depot. Her hands were planted firmly on her nearly non-existent hips, and she was sneering at him through a mouthful of dental-work that must have cost her parents a month's wages.
"Oh, uh… I'm sorry, miss. I was wool-gathering there, wasn't I?" He chuckled uncomfortably. "I do that from time to time, you see, I'm getting along in years, and it's-"
"How many do you want?" She interrupted impatiently.
"Oh! Um, I think I need, oh, I don't know. Say, are they still twenty dollars per box, like this morning?" He shifted nervously. He was normally a frugal gentleman, and between Helen's life insurance, his pension, and his social-security checks, he wasn't hurting for money. Still, twenty bucks for a box of cookies was a lot of dough. Cookie dough? he thought, grinning stupidly.
"SIR! Are you wasting my time deliberately? Look at the sign, right there, see it?" She pointed at a comically hand-lettered sheet of poster-board that had been hastily duct-taped to the side of the truck. It read: " KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS! LIMITID-EDITIEN! $50perBoX!"
Jesus Christ, he thought. Don't these kids know to spell?
"Sir! How many?" metal mouth demanded.
He reached into his back pocket and thumbed through the small bills folded neatly within. After the buggy full of groceries, he was a little strapped for cash. He counted seventeen dollars.
"I'm sorry miss, I guess I'm going to have to run to the ATM machine. Could you hold a few boxes for me?" He asked nervously, fearful of reproach for having wasted another minute of her precious time.
"Not a problem, sir. We take all major credit cards!" She smiled, her braces glinting in the sunlight. A large chunk of what could only be the remains of a cookie was lodged in between her braces and two front teeth. She gestured towards a small, hand-held card reader that sat on the table among boxes of cookies.
"Wonderful!" He said politely.

---

When he arrived home twenty minutes later, it took him five trips between the car and the house to get everything inside. He managed the bags in the trunk on the first go-round.
Gregory had purchased six cases of KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS. Each case held twelve boxes. Seventy-two boxes of cookies. At fifty dollars per box. He had charged thirty-six hundred dollars to his Visa, and he was just fine with that.
The week following his excursion to Wal-Mart passed in a disjointed blur. He slept restlessly the first three nights, and then none at all since. He hadn't bathed or eaten a single microwave dinner, which was probably for the best: He'd neglected to put them in the freezer, instead carelessly tossing the bags of food onto the floor of the kitchen. The only thing that made it into the refrigerator were the cases of beer.
Exactly one week after he'd dropped nearly four grand on a carload of Girl Scout cookies, he tossed the last one into his mouth and was terrified beyond description when he did so.
The house was a disaster area. If Helen could see their quaint little home now, she'd die again, but this time from a heart attack. At first, he'd simply sat in the recliner and flipped through the television channels, munching on cookies and guzzling beer, never satisfied with whatever channel he landed upon. He was an old-school guy and didn't have the internet. He had basic cable and a few movies on DVD, and that was the extent of his entertainment. When he'd become bored with the TV, he began to disassemble anything and everything he could get his hands on.
Helen's sewing machine sat dismantled on the small table in the breakfast nook. The larger pieces were smeared with dried chocolate residue and machine oil. The smaller pieces were scattered throughout the house for safekeeping. The bobbins were in the mail-box.
The DVD player that Helen had bought him for Christmas a few years ago was now just a discarded pile of plastic and wires. Most of it sat in the bathtub.
The hood of the Subaru was propped up, and various pieces of the engine had been removed and were now languishing in the bright sunlight of his front yard. He'd spray-painted them gold, and sat them out to dry. Three days ago.
The lawnmower fared no better. He'd become convinced that the small engine was infested with cockroaches, so he'd submerged it in the garden pool to drown them.
He was suddenly aware of his overwhelming craving for KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS. It was as if his entire body was thrumming like a live electrical wire. He'd been picking at his skin, and now his fingers were seeking out the small scabs that littered his arms and face. His eyes bulged in their dark and sunken sockets. He reeked of urine and a little shit. The toilet had become unusable after he'd tried stuffing it with every pair of Helen's shoes that he could find. He'd taken a painful dump in one of the empty cookie boxes and stuffed it under the bathroom sink.
Greg had, for lack of better words, lost his fucking mind.
The small and somewhat logical part of his brain that remained became fixated on finding more cookies. He ransacked the house, burying his arms up to the elbow between the cushions of the couch. He crawled on his hands and knees in front of the recliner, carefully examining the plush carpet, and snatching up what few crumbs he could find. He allowed them to dissolve on his tongue and then resumed his search.
He would have died from dehydration by now, but old habits are hard to break. He had drunk almost all of the beer, but half-full cans littered the house. Whenever his eyes fell on a can, he would snatch it up and slurp greedily, his body thankful for the moisture.
When he'd finally come to the conclusion that there were no more cookies to be found, he located the telephone. Mrs. Derkins' cell phone number was printed neatly on a small card Suzy had given him, and was clinging to the refrigerator door with a magnet in the shape of a maple leaf.
Suzy's mother answered on the third ring, and when he asked for Suzy, Mrs. Derkins was taken aback. When he assured her that he was only interested in acquiring some more of those delicious cookies that her daughter had sold to him, she laughed good-naturedly and told him that the sale was over. The local chapter of Girl Scouts had sold every single box, breaking last year's record by a landslide.
He hung up the phone and began to weep.
After a few moments of sheer panic, a fuzzy idea began to form in his brain. He put on his shoes, ventured outside, and glanced up and down the block. After Suzy had left his house last week, she'd made her way down the sidewalk to peddle her cookies elsewhere. He seemed to remember that she'd led her little red wagon down his neighbor's driveway.
Hester Talbot was eighty-seven years old and had been widowed for ten of those. Spry and quick-witted, she enjoyed crossword puzzles and tuned into Wheel Of Fortune every night. She didn't receive very many visitors these days, so when Gregory Kinkaid rang her doorbell, she was somewhat confused. It was nearly eight o'clock, and she liked to be in bed by eight-thirty. She'd already slipped into her favorite nightgown and topped off Murray's food dish. (Murray was her fat tabby tomcat, a stray she'd rescued when he was a kitten.)
She made her way to the front door from the kitchen where she'd been warming up Murray's nightly saucer of cream. None of that watered-down milk for her Murray, he deserved the best.
At first, she thought that maybe she'd left the television on. She hadn't heard the doorbell ring since last week when angelic little Suzy came by and sold her four boxes of Girl Scout cookies. Hester had no intention of actually eating them, planning instead to give them away as gifts. But, just yesterday, she'd developed a hankering for something sweet, and opened one of the boxes. She'd only had two of the cookies, but she knew immediately that they were far too rich for her blood. She'd sat up until nearly midnight last night, knitting a cute little winter hat for Murray.
She hesitated, unsure if she'd been mistaken. Then it rang again.
She shuffled to the front door and stood on her tiptoes to see through the peephole. She saw Gregory Kinkaid, she didn't recognize him immediately. He looked like he'd been in a nasty fight and came out on the loser's end.
"Hello? Who's there?" She asked in a thin, reedy voice.
"Oh, hey, sorry to bother you, missus Talbot. Hey, uh, it's Gregory Kinkaid? From next door? Say, you got a moment?" He was scratching at his cheek furiously with his left hand. Something had burrowed under his skin, and it was crawling around under there.
She began to unlatch the door. "Greg? Is something wrong? It's nearly my bedtime! Are you hurt?"
"No, ma'am. Well, maybe a little, yeah. Could I have a moment, please?" His mouth had gone dry. He wished he'd brought a beer with him.
"Alright then, hold on just a moment." She backed away from the peephole and turned the deadbolt. She opened the door and was completely unprepared for what she now saw clearly. Greg stood before her, quivering, and scratching. There were open sores all over his face, some were bleeding. His hair was disheveled and thickly matted with something that resembled clay. His clothing was filthy, stained, and damp. The odors that wafted in as the door opened nearly knocked her over. He absolutely reeked. Her milky blue eyes grew wide with concern.
"Oh my goodness! Greg! What's happened? Come in and let me get a look at you. Have you been in an accident? " Her brow furrowed in concern as she backed away from the doorway to allow him to enter.
"No, no. Nothing like that at all." He stepped across the threshold and his eyes began to dart around the room. He didn't see any KOKO KOOKIE KRUNCHYS. That didn't mean she didn't have any. "Missus Talbot, I'm so sorry to barge in on you so late, but, uh, I need to ask you for your help." He tried to compose himself, yet he still quivered and thrummed, every nerve singing in desperate agony for a cookie. His eyes had begun to well up with tears, threatening to cascade down his face.
She reached out and took his shaking hands in hers. "Anything, dear! What can I do to help?"
He licked his lips, parched. "You know little Suzy Derkins? The Girl Scout? She was running around the neighborhood this past week, and, um, did she, you know, come by here at all? Maybe try to sell you some cookies? Chocolate chip cookies?"
Her eyes lit up, and she smiled broadly. "Why, yes she did! Precious little girl! So sweet. Why do you ask?"
"Well, you see, I was wondering if maybe you'd bought any from her?" He asked hopefully.
"I sure did! Four boxes to be exact!" She said, nodding.
"Four boxes! Perfect! I would like to buy them from you, could I?" His eyes were red and swollen. His nose was running. He wiped at it with the back of his sleeve.
"Oh, I'm sorry, but no, I'd rather not, Greg. They're gifts, you see. For my grandchildren. You understand?" Her eyes narrowed, suspicious.
"I could pay you double for them! Right now! Please, I promised Helen. She loves them so much! You remember Helen? She loves those cookies. I promised her, you know? She needs those cookies, right now, more than you do." His teeth were clenched tightly.
She furrowed her brow, deeply concerned and a little uncomfortable. "Gregory, I'm sorry, but no. I'm sure if you go down to the Wal-Mart tomorrow, those girls will still have plenty left. I saw the picture in the paper. A whole truckload!'
"No." He said, exasperated. "They're sold out. There's no more. Look, I don't have any cash on me right now, but tomorrow I will run down to the ATM and get some. I'll give you fifty dollars for each box! Look, you don't understand, I just have to have them. I won't take no for an answer!" He was kneading one tightly clasped fist with his other hand.
"That's about enough of this nonsense, Gregory Kinkaid! I think you've had quite enough cookies tonight, and from the smell of you, enough beer to drown a horse! Why don't' you go on home, and get some rest? You'll feel better in th-"

POW!

His fist shot out quickly and connected squarely with her nose. It made an audible crunch and blood began to pour from her like water from a tap. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she collapsed onto the floor. He stood looking down at her in utter disbelief. She was snoring, deeply. He'd knocked her unconscious.
His eyes began to dart around the room again until they found a heavy cast-iron stoking bar near the fireplace. He stepped over her, and in three long strides, he reached out and plucked it from the rack where it stood with the other tools. He turned around and tiptoed over to where she lay, frothy streams of blood and snot trickling down her cheeks.
He raised the iron bar and brought it down in a swift and heavy motion, like someone chopping wood for a campfire. It connected with her skull, and her gray hair was soon a wet mop of dark crimson. Her body convulsed, so he gave her another whack and she became still. He watched her closely for a moment, and then tossed the stoker onto her chest, and whispered softly: "I'm so sorry, Mrs. Talbot, but I need those cookies."

2020.09.10 21:25 hansolojazzcup Definitive guide to companies to support / re-consider / avoid.

EDIT: Thanks for all the feedback. So heads up this list was originally part of this AR-15 build guide spreadsheet, hence the frequent mentioning of that gun/platform and some arbitrary shout outs to specific AR-15 makers. (Ironically I'm primarily a shotgun guy at the moment.) So PLEASE look elsewhere if you are looking for recs devoid of any political consideration. The original intention was this as a disclaimer / FYI oriented list of companies with good, iffy, or straight-up bad Ppolitical affiliations/etc. as well as US made and/or unionized companies. It's been muddled with quality mostly apolitical budget-oriented recs as well. I am likely not listing many (like dozens if not hundreds) and I don't want to open a can of worms and end up listing general gun suggestions / lists. I might even par it down for that reason.
So that said I'll leave additional recs to the comments. Will edit and add any companies to overtly avoid for shitty politics/ownership and likewise will add any that are inclusive and/or liberal or left leaning. Thanks!
//////////////////////////
The information below is aimed at informing gun enthusiasts with moral, ethical, and ideological reservations about certain supporting manufacturers. It lists reputable apolitical and professional manufacturers to consider, is then followed by disclaimers about other reputable manufacturers, then concluded with manufacturers to consider avoiding.
Full disclaimer: this effort stems from frequent and incessant debates and discussions I've seen among gun owners from center to far-left and from my own concerns personally as a leftist. That said if you are neither left-wing nor liberal but nonetheless want to support honest and sincere gun manufacturers this information is worth reviewing. This is not aimed at calling out any company with remotely right-wing political affiliation or leadership, that would be not just flippant and needless but absurdly futile. In fact the only ones I recommend to avoid have overtly engaged the following: pandered to destructive and vitriolic identity politics, bootlicked and idolized authoritarian entities and leaders, or in a few cases literally touted fascism and right-wing extremism. I would argue these are not mere red flags to myself or others on the left but more broadly sentiments that sincere conservatives and libertarians should also wholeheartedly condemn. It is my sincere belief that gun ownership rights are a not only universal right and a necessity for the working-class but also potentially a unifying ideological issue that will hopefully transcend contemporary politics. Fundamental respect for gun safety and handling and willingness to include all who want to be involved in legal and responsible gun ownership is common ground for anyone who believes in basic equality and freedom. Lastly, if you are still rolling your eyes, ready to list a litany of dismissive rants as one of those "better dead than red" edgelord dolts, than by all means F.O.A.D.
Manufacturers To Consider:
///
Solid Companies in every regard: Much of this intel gathered from this helpful post on reddit from u/tanksuit who help spurred on this effort and also from this extensive Something Awful Thread. Further info gleaned from a private FB I will not name. If anyone from there sees this, many thanks.
Windham Weaponry - mostly lateral organizing, employees treated as collective owners (to clarify no indication they are literally collectively owned). Broke off from Bushmaster. Wide arrange of models. Fair pricing, great customer service and high quality (Kudos to tip-off via FB Group)
Rocket Armory - Arguably the only overtly liberal AR part manufacturer. Not quite leftist (I'd skip the LGO logo lower - LGO is adverse to leftists) but nonetheless an outspokenly progressive maker is a worth supporting IMO. Lowers and fixed mags only. Current stock shipping in mid-December 2020.
CMMG - Apolitical, high quality, and unionized. Good selection of various caliber platforms both complete, uppelower reciever packages, or stripped parts.
JP - Expensive but high quality, anecdotal stories of apolitical / non-CHUD atmosphere from employee that appears to be reflected in their PR.
Whiskin Tango Foxtrot (WTF Guns) - Gun building/customization business in Fort Worth, TX in process of acquiring machinery. Veteran owned and liberal friendly.
Liberal Gun Club Member Business - A list of firearm accessory businesses and not manufactures but nonetheless worth looking at to support liberal gun enthusiasts
Smith & Wesson - Mostly apolitical, huge company but American made and makes solid entry-level AR-15s
Cz-USA - US distro/importer of the venerable Czech manufacturer.
Atlantic Firearms - apolitical and reliable merchant and they are helpful with compliance guns for ban states
Off Color Decals / Dorner Tactical / Red Stone Creative / John Brown Armory / Cultivated Laser / Outcast Society / Flank Left / Sleep of Reason - Stickers, patches, etc.
John Brown Prints - Shirts and stickers, though specifically these proceeds go to BLM and bail funds
Others...There are far more smaller American AR-15 manufacturers of varying quality and pricing, consider smaller and local options as politics aside they are employing enthusiasts making firearms for fellow enthusiasts. Regarding quality: research forums and comment sections before you buy!
///
Unionized:
Colt (UAW) - The original maker of AR-15s after they bought ArmaLite in 1964 and patent holder on design until 1977. Big law enforcement / military supplier. Good but arguably a redundant consideration now with so many AR-15 options.
Savage (IAM) - Mostly non-AR-15 style rifles like bolt action, hunting semi autos, competition, etc. Good and often affordable consideration for those platforms.
Unionized Non-AR makers>>> Browning - IAM, Douglas - IAM, Winchester - IAM, Remington - UMW (Bankruptcy impending and Navajo purchase fell through, post-Freedom Group quality dip after 2007)
///
Solid but with disclaimers/caveats:
Aero Precision / Ballistic Advantage Barrels - Huge selection, affordable, well-touted and potentially the benchmark of non-gucci lower receivers. Not innocent, the tone deaf AF blurb for Rhodesia camo comes to mind, but otherwise less CHUD-y. Excellent "default" manufacturer to use for builds that are budget and mid-tier / entry level oriented.
Mid State Firearms - Great PSA alternative, far less knee-jerk and pandering. Offers discounted bundles and kits of cancelled orders, blemished but good parts, and "oddball" assortments. Read multiple testimonies of good customer service in response to any issues. Like Aero they aren't perfectly apolitical as they sell 3%er dust covers. Thanks for the tip datcatburd
KE Arms - Mostly solid and somewhat under the radar, competition quality oriented - collaborators with InRangeTV's "What Would Stoner Do?" gun project and InRangeTV is notably inclusive. Allegedly friendly staff but Russell Phagan, aka longtime SomethingAwful poster SinistralRifleman, was banned after relentlessly defending the Kenosha shooter. More FYI than anything, to be seen if it affects the WWSD collab with InRangeTV as he was a core part of that development.
Brownells - Well-regarded and has budget part options, owns a lot of AR-15 related ventures including AR15.com and family has major NRA ties and lobbying industry. Distro for InRangeTV + KE Arms What Would Stoner Do? WWSD AR-15. Again not perfect, they had a cringe-y fellowkids level nod to boogaloo shirts in a recent vid
Midway USA - Comparable to Brownells, lot of options, reliable vendor, etc. Some NRA connections but nothing crazy. More info here thanks to u/rocketboy2319
SGAmmo - not the only ammo supply company by any means but a solid bulk option with no BS apolitical tone.
Primary Arms - Another distro to consider, mostly because it's been keeping a lot of AR-15 parts in stock despite panic buying
Bravo Company USA [BCM] - Bit pricier but another solid and popular choice for upper tier ARs, had confederate battle flag engraving option. As u/mp8815 pointed out they are a great option for more serious milspec than Aero, PSA, etc.
Little Creek Trading - Distro/online store - lot of expensive / high end stuff but also good deals on lower recievers, parts, accessories, and built ARs. Pleasant website layout so worth browsing for ideas if nothing else. Sell affordable slings.
Sig Sauer- 75% +/- US made, reactionary "US anthem" anti-kneel BS commemorative models but fairly tame jingoism in context
Ruger - Excellent guns including the classic 10/22 and various other models, some have US components and assembly, well-regarded starter AR-15, major NRA donor (interestingly and ironically the late Rugar was outspoken about magazine limitations)
Glock - Universally know and solid handgun maker, USA distro / service is well regarded. Gaston Glock allegedly a right-wing donor in Austria but from his coffer. Note: Polymer80 guns are an option for anyone wanting to build their own Glock style handgun.
LaRue Tactical - Expensive but well-regarded and established, their triggers (MBT-2S esp.) are well touted and affordable ($80) upgrades over milspec; FYI they send gimmicky overt right-wing bumper stickers with orders and the owner is cozy with right-wing and GOP leaders. (In the same vein Faxon makes well regarded barrels.)
Geissele makes well regarded triggers and parts but owner is allegedly tyrannical, work environment is rough and has high turnover.
BCG options: Toolcraft and Cryptic Coatings offer affordable options and appear fairly apolitical.
Primary Arms - Affordable scope options, some stereotypical law enforcement pandering but that's the case with most peers.
Daniel Defense - Update: previously reputable and touted brand but according to this previous indication of good worker environment are unfortunately obsolete. QC is allegedly slipping and ownership attitude has become negative and toxic. On the flipside recent buyers report satisfactory quality and originally I had read the work environment was unusually inclusive. Maybe opt for different high end brand? Jury's out TBH. Still likely a solid choice quality wise but keep an eye out for them.
Springfield Armory / Rock River Arms- Decent but FYI some shady legislative lobbying efforts heads via this post disregard, they've since left IFMA
Sons of Liberty Gun Works - Tip off here about one of it's owners, Mike Mihalski, being unhinged in the past - assaulting his mother and numerous threats against cops actually doing their job that were then brushed off by law enforcement superiors he was friendly with, DUIs and public intoxication at a hotel while armed (albeit he cooperated) Update: Mike has apparently been sober and straight for awhile, more a disclaimer to be aware of. It's otherwise a solid manufacturer akin to other mil-spec AR makers.
Del-Ton - PSA alternative and alternative to cheap "iffy brands" with more notorious QC issues - def more entry-level and milspec but generally good reviews - consider if budget is a major factor
Radical (see more below) - Allegedly better but QC issues in the past...(see details below)
Palmetto State Armory (see more below) - *Only listed because of historically affordable parts, products, and supplies, though this is arguable. Hit or miss customer service, including customer info leaks and inadvertent doxxing customers. Most notably one of the worst offenders in cranking out right-wing and jingoist bullshit ~ MAGA drooling, ID politics crap, etc. More on this under "Reconsider" List
Others...Many, many others out there but like anything else you can easily drop a lot of money seeking out "the best," and mediocre rifle with a qualified shooter > high-end rifle in the hands of a inexperienced shooter.
///
American Made not yet mentioned:
Mossberg - Factories in Connecticut and Texas. Not sure 100% if MMR is US made. At least one model is Turkish made (SA20), and the Maverick 88 has Mexican made parts that are assembled in Eagle Pass, TX. IMHO the best pump action shotgun catalog to choose from, the Maverick 88 along with the H&R Pardner or Savage 320 are solid budget pump actions.
American made brands (non-AR-15)>>> Thompson/Center, Henry, Ithaca, Kimber, Beretta (some models)
///
Reconsider / Possibly Avoid: To re-emphasize no shame if you own or bought the below and the "line in the sand" is very arguable, but these, especially if pricing is not as much of an issues, these can be easily opted out of in your AR-15 procurement and builds.
Palmetto State Armory - Mentioned again because easily the most debated manufacturer. Numerous examples of racist and fascist etched lowers aside I agree with the sentiment that their motivation is capitalism above all else and not so much right-wing worship although those pair well together. Case in point - they cancelled their planned Kekistan lower due to backlash, i.e. didn't double-down nor apologize but reaffirmed business first. They also sell some self-deprecating, humorous and more apolitical lower engraved options. Beyond this crap they have also had customer service hiccups including personal info leaks. Your call. Last ditch option for me personally but I wouldn't completely rule them out either especially as parts and new guns are increasingly expensive and hard to acquire. To sum up I rather a comrade have half a dozen of these than some sole spiffy new gucci AR-15.
Bushmaster - Quality has been criticized by many, Windham broke off to establish better quality gun line and ultimately they closed shop this year. Avoid any you might find out there post-2007.
Anderson - Popular choice but debated quality and prone to bootlicking MAGA bullshit so honestly it's pointless to tout over Aero Precision, PSA, or MSF.
Tennessee Arms - Mixed feedback about their polymer lowers, gloated over Infowars showout/endorsement, dumb (like okbuddyretard level) memes on FB
Enoch Industries - 10/22 Takedown parts and custom builder, some quintessential grey area Odin/Pagan stuff that could be harmless warrior aesthetic stuff or a dog whistle.
Esstac - Solid and affordable pouch and other accessory maker including shotgun cards I rec, that said they came out as Kenosha shooter stans
Classic Firearms - Used auction site/seller. Not politically iffy, just often overpriced and waste of time to browse, use gunbroker.com or even cautiously use armslist instead [edit: to clarify "waste of time" for anyone looking for pragmatic deals to skim, not niche stuff to collect.]
Kel Tec - This one is tricky, the off very affordable non-AR-15 9mm carbines - same working class price niche as High-Point - but just FYI they've had cozy PR with George Zimmerman in the past
H&S Precision - Hired Ruby Ridge FBI participant Lon Horiuchi in the past
Cheaperthandirt - Tread carefully even if you see a deal - plethora of complaints about service, pricing, turnaround, etc. Check with other options first.
Note on foreign manufacturers (IWI, Canik) - This another debate point that leads to a lot gray area and arbitrary claims whether it's regarding companies based in countries with authoritarian governments, human rights abuses, war profiteering, etc. One could argue that applies to all American makes. When it comes to state made guns most state owned firearms companies of the past either have been privatized (like IWI in Israel) or are not legally importable in the U.S. (Norinco in China, various Russian companies). Ironically while the U.S. bans certain Chinese guns many U.S. manufacturers rely heavily on Chinese plants and parts. The general reality is most non-American and non-Western manufacturers are part of multinational conglomerates or distribution networks, as is the case with many Turkish guns like Canik. History ebbs and flows too, a 60s/70s era Galil is different case than a new Tavor in terms culpability, South African guns now are less arguably problematic than apartheid era stuff. Overall, it's up to you.
///
Companies with noted QC issues:
Radical Arms - Issues in the past but reportedly the QC is improving so could be a potential budget option and arguably the best of the iffy makes. Your call.
Bear Creek Arsenal - Formerly Moore's Machine. People have touted BCA as an effective and reliable budget rifles but their QC seems risky, others have had major issues. Apparently they have a good warranty option though so there's that as an option.
Anderson - See above. Stripped lowers are probably a-ok.
DPMS / Bushmaster - Easy avoid, dead as of Jan 2020 - another post Freedom Group brand that declined after 2007 as mentioned above - mixed reviews but needless consideration considering so many other options in the NOS and used market.
Vulcan/Hesse/Blackthorne - Easy avoid, multiple name changes and near universal dismissal or negative reviews.
///
Avoid if you can in the future:
Blackwater Worldwide / Iron Horse - Invested, touted, and overtly marketed by longtime mercenary, grifter, and war criminal and profiteer Erik Prince, the poster child of the present day world military industrial complex. Collaborated with Spike's Tactical (see below). Formerly Iron Horse Guns and original company unchanged product wise but they're-branded as Blackwater Worldwide in exchange for Prince's investment. At least they are honest and transparent about it I guess.
Spikes Tactical - Hysterical anti-antifa (i.e. fascist lol) CHUD to the max, many note iffy / overrated products compared to peers - don't sweat it if you have one but ditch this option in the future and spend your money elsewhere.
Fenix Ammunition - anti-Antifa hysteria and with a boog angle too boot
DS Arms - Overt Rhodesia glorifying, not just camo fetishism
Griffin Armament - "Front Towards Arabs" engraved suppressors, lazy racist shit (notice it isn't ISIS) compared to the more snarky "infidel" dust covers and decals
Kahr Arms and Auto-Ordnance (thanks u/Oldskoolguitar) - Literally run by major cult (Moonies) i.e. the Unification movement Apparently Kahr is crappy anyway but Auto-Ordnance makes 1911, M1, and Thompson replicas so seek other options for those models (mispelled earlier, meant Kahr, not Khar)
Smith Enterprises - SS iconography sold, i.e. actual Nazi stuff not the Iron Cross aesthetics
T-Rex Arms - Quiverfall members more on that group here%20and%20sterilization.) and Lucas has posted cheap homophobic crap. (thanks u/eyetracker)
Troy Industries - Apparently tits up but backlash for hiring Dale Monroe - i.e. FBI veteran and Ruby Ridge participant
DesertTech - Owner is fringe Mormon sect member with racist views
Non-AR makers/businesses to avoid... (Sourced from Something Awful thread above)

Some advice and food for thought regarding reconciling ideology with present day gun enthusiasm:
If you are a liberal, progress, moderate, etc. who has come into gun ownership more recently, or has been reckoning with shifts in gun laws and gun culture in the U.S. over the last few decades, than you've likely managed to cut through the noise surrounding the debate, discussion, and frequently knee-jerk hysteria that surrounds semi-automatic rifles and the AR-15 platform. Now you're probably navigating the persistent injection of right-wing identity politics via stamped receivers, accessories and apparel with cheap shock value and superficial pandering, tacticool veering into authoritarian fetishism, tribal jingoism, etc. You've pushed aside misguided liberal identity politics that mis-characterize and attack gun enthusiasm only to have it's reactionary core shoved in your face. It can easily be reconciled with a concept you've likely seen: “There is no ethical consumption under capitalism.” It's been overused and even widely applied in dubious scenarios but I'd argue it's highly relevant when it comes to buying any new firearm or firearm component. All that aside it's still perfectly reasonable to not inadvertently throw your hard-earned cash at bootlicking goons, so when it comes to manufacturers this list should at least help you navigate and plan your purchases armed with information and awareness. If anything, supporting more apolitical and progressive manufacturers who aim to focus first and foremost on making quality firearms for all should be spurred on, not stymied.
If you're a leftist of any variety and interested in AR-15s you are likely already past the idea of committing to firearms that seemingly align with your views - AKs, milsurp SKS, Mosins, anything from cold war era socialist or communist states, etc. You've likely realized the last era of true Nazi-eliminator rifles are now 75+ years old. Futile seeking out new firearms and parts from non-capitalist states in 2020 will only reinforce this sincere but arbitrary hill to die on. A more pragmatic approach some make is to focus on buying only used firearms and parts already in circulation but this could still involve the financial patronage to a distributor, store, or individual of bad character. On a personal tangent, I first warmed back up to the idea of owning a semi-automatic that wasn't an AR-15 either by following the same arbitrary classification that deems a used M-14 or old M-1 carbine a better choice, but beyond classic value and aesthetics they are in the same niche. Even though defenders of the AR-15 sometimes veer into obnoxious and flippant ackchyually territory, especially after tragic gun massacres, they are often technically correct. The blunt fact is the AR-15 platform is fundamentally as legal as other semi-automatic rifles. It's popular for that reason and that's why it has so many fans, defenders, and apologists in so many forms.
When it comes to broader ideas of firearm ownership in relation to one's ideology, something I reflect on often is the fact that history has always involved the oppressed using the weapons of their oppressors both past and present. It's a moot point what the firearm is, it is a tool that reflects the individual who wields it. A rifle in the hands of a fascist is a fascist rifle and likewise a rifle in the hands of a socialist is a socialist rifle. To further make the case for the AR-15 many have made in some variation is that it is the present day rifle of the proletariat, the M1 Garand or PPSh-41 of it's time. When it comes to affirming your support for gun ownership, advocate for more widespread gun education, training, and positive and inclusive gun culture. Put lawmakers to task for pushing gun regulations that discourage law-abiding citizens - especially lower income citizens and people of color - from lawful ownership of guns. Support instead substantive reform and funding of mental health resources, de-militarizing law enforcement, and ending gun lobbying that side steps gun owners to only further corruption and complicity. If those who wish to do you harm are armed and will likely always be armed, there's no point in handicapping yourself or your peers.
Buying or building an AR-15 is an exercise of one's 2nd amendment right. For those outside of the U.S., and to all lawful and well-meaning comrades, arm yourself however you can legally and responsibly. Marx put it more bluntly in 1850 than the 2A's far more nuanced wording and arduous historical establishment: “Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary”
Lastly, above all else, with tensions rising and outright violence being perpetuated by the far right, it is more imperative than ever simply to arm oneself as quickly, effectively, and safely as possible, regardless of the manufacturers, stores, and distros involved. A well made affordable gun you can acquire ASAP is a lot more imperative than your ideal build/choice. This is a guide not a plea. It's better to be armed with a gun from the "avoid" list today than to wait around for some ideologically preferable firearm weeks or months from now.

2020.09.10 21:17 hansolojazzcup Definitive list of companies to support / re-consider / avoid (and reminder that a rifle in the hands of a socialist is a socialist rifle.)

Thanks!
//////////////////////////
///
///
Unionized Non-AR makers>>> Browning - IAM, Douglas - IAM, Winchester - IAM, Remington - UMW (Bankruptcy impending and Navajo purchase fell through, post-Freedom Group quality dip after 2007)
///
///
///
///
///
DE Guns - Neo-Nazi ties
Glockstore - White Supremacist organization ties
^ these are the tip of the iceberg TBH. There are likely problematic owners of stores and companies who will never be outed. 2020.09.10 02:39 kofnek3369 Dior B23 low comparison - White/black retail vs white/white jasmade (rep)

Hi All,
Just wanted to share a review i've done on a pair of B23 low white/white which i purchased from Jasmade recently. I also own a pair of retail b23 low black/white so i've added some comparison photos for those who want to know/see how close this pair is to retail.
We all know reps have flaws so this isn't about pointing out all of Jasmade's flaws compared to retail as that would be unfair. I'm simply pointing out differences of what I can see so others who want a pair of b23s can see this and make their own decisions.
I'm also a newbie here on reddit and reps in general and this was my first ever rep haul. Loving the experience so far.

w2c here - https://hypebeastmaster123.x.yupoo.com/albums/84149422?uid=1&referrercate=2835119 - advised wegobuy of this link and Jasmade's wechat/whatsapp contact details. Purchase price $105 USD (after exchange rate and wegobuy fees, worked out to be about $175 AUD for the Aussie repfam).
Size (EU 42) - for reference, i'm a US10 in retail Jordans, and EU42 in retail Dior.
Purchasing experience: Jasmade was quick to respond to messages on whatsapp, although there would be maybe a 12 hour delay sometimes possibly due to time difference and need for VPN in China to use Whatsapp. was polite, answered all questions (i'm a noob rep buyer)
These were $105 USD with free domestic shipping or an estimated $30-$35 USD international shipping to Australia. Wegobuy provides a below market exchange rate but i was shipping it with the rest of my haul so even though I lost out on the subpar exchange rate, i probably made it up with savings in my shipping.
Overall experience 8.5/10 - lowered only by the realisation i got stung hard on the fx rate by Wegobuy. Rookie mistake.
Domestic Shipping: Purchase order submitted to Wegobuy on 8th August 2020. Shoes arrived in warehouse 13th August 2020.
Overall experience 10/10
International Shipping: Wegobuy shipping to Melbourne, Australia was via GD-EMS. Experienced some delays in international shipping due to possible COVID related issues. Submitted parcel (total 14kg) for delivery 25th August 2020, received them at my doorstep yesterday 9th September 2020. Tracking updated quickly from leaving Wegobuy warehouse to airport terminal. It then took about a 2 weeks before tracking was updated to show haul had arrived in Melbourne and waiting to clear customs. Tracking didn't update again until yesterday 9th September 2020 when suddenly it changed to "out for delivery".
Delivery arrived and packed well. I opted for waterproof option but I think this was overkill. Literally every item was individually packed in a ziplock bag. The shoes were inside a plastic shipping bag which were then wrapped up by the clothes i bought. These were placed inside a large cardboard box that was wrapped with security film and then wrapped up again in a thicker waterproof transparent plastic sheet.
experience 8/10 - can't fault Wegobuy or EMS. More likely a local covid19 issue causing delays but i must admit the anticipation in receiving my first haul was killing me. I was literally checking tracking every 3 hours. Wrapping was perfect.
Now the review itself
Sizing: Purchased EU42 from Jasmade based on his confirmation sizing was same as retail. Its not. These are slightly longer than retail EU42, but width is about the same. Better to be larger than smaller, but also don't want them to look like clown shoes. Acceptable difference so its a non factor for me. I don't think Jasmade do half sizes. I also didn't measure the insoles for QC purposes which now I've learnt i should do.
experience 9/10
Quality and Accuracy I chose Jasmade because of the photos on his yupoo showing the differences between his and other reps. Sure other rep makers might have same features or addressed same concerns, but Jasmade pointed them out which was what sold me.
Overall, a quality shoe, materials feel the same as retail, stitching is neat save for some minor areas around the heel and toe box. What mattered most to me was matching pattern.
Experience: 9/10
Overall If not for the shipping delay, I'd give this whole experience overall a 9.5/10. I'm super happy with this purchase and can rock with confidence. Again the most glaringly obvious flaw anyone can quickly pick out from afar is the matching pattern so I'm more than happy about this pair. This is a 9/10 experience for me.

2020.09.06 13:44 RowdyWrongdoer Welcome to r/Geedis home of the mysterious Land of Ta!!! Start here to dive into all things Geedis!!!

Welcome to Geedis

Thank you for finding us!!! We are community devoted to all things Geedis and The Land of TaJoin us as we create lore, create art, and spread the absurdly silly fun that is Geedis and the Land of Ta. WTF is Geedis? That's up to you!!! We have a rich history full of mystery, fun, and some really great people. Join the other Geeders in our community and celebrate all things geedis!Read the information bellow to dive into all things Geedis!!

Summary

Pronounced Ghee-Dis
Geedis is a character found on sticker sheets and an enamel pin. The sticker sheets make up The Land of Ta. A mystery arose when comedian Nate Fernald asked the internet "WTF is Geedis" after finding the now famous Geedis Pin. Geedis was soon found on stickers which was his original medium. Land of Ta sheet 1 Land of Ta sheet 2 The Women of TA
The Podcast Endless Thread investigated the mystery of wtf is Geedis and found the artist behind Geedis and the Land of Ta!
Listen Here: https://www.wbur.org/endlessthread/2019/08/23/what-is-geedis
Youtube Channel Whang! Also has 3 great videos on the topic. We highly recommend listening to the podcast before watching the second video. You can find his first Video here and his update Video here as well as a 3rd follow up Video here.
Remember to read the rules in the sidebar
Spoilers exist past this point for Endless thread and both videos.
Wtf is Geedis? What mysteries exist in the Land of Ta?
We did not know who drew Geedis or the Land of Ta art until a podcast came along to take up our case. Endless Thread followed leads generated by this community to the Framingham Historic Center. The FHC Curator Stacen who had previously passed on leads to this subreddit, gave Endless Thread contacts with former Dennison employees who directed them to the family of Sam Petrucci.Geedis is a character drawn by Sam Petrucci for the Dennison Mfg Company from Framingham Massachusetts. We know Sam drew 2 of the 3 Land of Ta sticker sheets of which the first featured Geedis.

Our Goals

What do we hope to accomplish?Spread the characters from the Land of Ta far and wide. A Geedis in every home.Solve the remaining mysteries of Ta
What mysteries do we want solved?
  1. Who made the Geedis Pin, When, Where, Why?
  2. Who drew the Women of Ta
  3. Wtf is Tammy?

The Mysteries of Ta?!?!?!

Since Nate's original post he has acquired several more Geedis pins from a collector who acquired a large collection of vintage pins from an ill man unable to do business anymore. Most of the pins in this collection were said to be dated pre 1983 but not all. The earliest listing of the Geedis pins on ebay we can find to date to 2014
User sadtacobell found these pins at a small gift shop in Cheerokee NC. The current owners of the shop do not know when/how the pins were originally aquired. These Geedis pins look completely different both front and back as shown in this comparison by groovyorangealien who acquired one of the pins.
All known Geedis pins Thanks groovyorangealien
We have confirmation that Dennison never made Pins. “We never made enamel pins, at least not in the 25 years I was there.” This info came via The former National Marketing Mgr for Consumer Products at Dennison during this time period. They went on to be the GM over Dennison-Carter after Dennison bought Carter Ink. This persons name is withheld privacy. Framingham Historic Center is responsible for this information please donate FHC
Our current feeling is the pins were produced by a now defunct company and sold in bulk to souvenir shops. There seems to be about 100 geedis pins in the wild thus far. Nate Fernald owns roughly 80 of them.
Sticker sheet 80-224Women of Ta
Here is a pic of Women of Ta in the packaging thanks GeedisGirl
Does Tammy have anything to do with this? If not....wtf is Tammy? Some believe they share the same manufacture.

The People

The GeedFather. Sam drew sheets 1 and 2 of the Land of Ta and created the character of Geedis who ultimately spawned this whole mystery. Endless thread the podcast helped lead us to Sam.
The following bio is taken from SamPetrucci.com
"Sam was a premiere commercial artist working in the Boston area from the 1960s through the 1990s. Best known as the original packaging artist for Hasbro’s GI Joe, Sam also used his talents to create logos, branding, and packaging for numerous high profile clients including Poland Springs, TJ Maxx, Hasbro, Smokey the Bear, the World Wildlife Fund, Dennison, Fluff, Sunkist, Oceanspray, Gillette, Friendly’s, Dunkin Donuts, BASF, BOSE, Gorton’s Fishsticks, the Massachusetts State Lottery, Venus Crackers, Jose Cuervo, Polaroid, Boston College, Harvard, the Boston Bruins, the Boston Red Sox, Liberty Mutual, Hewlett Packard, and many others. After starting two design studios, Thresher & Petrucci, and then Sam Petrucci & Associates, Sam worked at Gunn Associates on Newbury Street until his retirement in 1994.

There is a hoax Lunch Box that gets posted, this is a bogus lead. I think its simply fan art from Storybreak fans.Carrie Zinn is a known hoaxster, more info here in the original posts

From the Nate AMA this image of a Zoltan pin has appeared. It was first listed 2 months after Atlas Obscura did an article on this mystery. The seller seems unreachable and has sold nothing else. Its authenticity is a very debated topic among this sub. This is the only known picture of the pin. You can find some comparison pictures and debate here. This pin was found to be a hoax. A pin company named PSA Press started planting these around the last few years and released them on april 1st for sale. It was a hoax and they had hoped some would turn up in the wild online. This never came to pass. Check out theirAMA here

2020.09.03 02:11 luna_the_madman Lore idea I had, and a couple of theories about Starr Park.

So this was a couple of replies i made on Rey's latest video. It relates to things i saw on the Starr Park fansite, and the second reply was a theory/fantasy headcanon story that I kinda really liked, had fun typing up, and decided to share with you guys.
First reply, started off with the fansite:
There was a few things I noted, whilst digging:
So, here's my theory:
Starr Park is a theme park much like Disney World or Disney Land. But, Starr Park seems to be much more than a park. With all of the merchandise seen here, and the advertisements for products and services we have heard in the WKBRL liveatream, it seems Starr is actually like a one-to-one video game version of the Disney Company as a whole. Disney, as family friendly as it is, isn't without it's dirt. And the devs seem to be playing with that idea of Starr Corp, and Starr Park, being fun and colorful kn the outside, but is secretly very, very dark.
And then the gears really started turning. This was the second reply. I had some fun writing this out:
I also have a couple of ideas, speculation, really. Headcanon stuff.
Firstly, that the timeline of Brawl Stars still takes place in the same time that Project Laser might have taken place in. However, instead of taking place in space, it takes place on Earth.
Starr Corp was once an asteroid mining company. That was, until they came across a little star shaped alien with a cute and happy face. With unbelievable powers.
When they took it back to Earth, they realized it could do all sorts of things. It produced a substance that gave folks incredible boosts in power and speed, for one thing. It also seems to be able to promote very fast healing. And, could also use the stuff to bring things to life. Starr Corp scientists first realized this when it made a cactus come to life that looks surprisingly like the alien. And they figure that's how it reproduces, in a sense, by copying itself, but into whatever object it touches. Cloning, almost. The alien also shared with the scientists technology: how to build advanced robots and weapons, gear that give people insane power and durability, as well as a type of armor that acts like a skin. As well as warp technology.
The head of Starr Corp, a frugal and shrewd man, instead of sharing this info with the world, had an idea. He once dreamed of having a theme park, full of all of the stuff from his childhood, but still wanted to include elements and the charm of what his grandfather's little carnival used to have. And that's what he set out to do.
But why stop there? Turns out, the alien has the ability to copy things, too, not just itself. Cheaply, but cheap is just how Mr Starr likes it. Cheap products and goods going out in droves. Soon enough, he has enough funds for all sorts of things: cruises, spas, breakfast cereals, diners, restaurants. He still has the mining company, so invest in that as well. Send meteors via an app to friends! He buys railways to get products out, shipping docks to spread his media entertainment empire across the world. He orders his scientists to recreate synthetic versions of the stuff the alien makes because the little guy is just a cash cow at this rate. One that is getting tuckered out, but one Mr Starr is willing to milk dry. The synthetic stuff isn't as effective, or even as safe as the real stuff, but who's gonna know? No one. Because no one is going to realize there is a facility underneath his dream, Starr Park. A facility meant to hold his little money maker from the stars.
The technology the alien shared is easy to replicate. So easy, in fact, he hires a lone engineer to make them all. A pregnant woman in need named Pam. She sets out to test this new technology first by creating a nanny. Nani. In preparation for the incoming baby.
Pam having access to the technology comes with perks: she gets to live in the park for free, with a full job with benefits repairing all of the robots, rides, and attractions. Especially the security bots, both the standard ones and the ones that double as characters in the park, which also get used for special events around the park now and then. Under some conditions: she's never to share this technology with ANYONE. And she's never allowed to ask what the security bots are supposed to be protecting, since they already have human security guards protecting the place.
Though, lately, Pam notices weird signals coming from the heart of the park. They seem to come from right underneath her.
Meanwhile, Jessie has always lived in the park. Improving her mechanical skills under the watchful eye of Nani. She wants to fulfill her dream of running the park, just like her mama does. All of the employees know and love Jessie, even though she doesn't seem to realize there's more to the world than the amusement park she's grown up in all of her life. And one day, she'll make a brand new friend. One from the stars.
Story aside, and in short: the logo is of an alien that helped, willingly or otherwise, with the creation of Starr Park. A dream of one man, the home of a suspicious family, and host to a crazy cast of characters.
Edit to add: Spike becomes the defacto mascot of the park, because its the one thing that looks the most like the alien Mr Starr found. Spike knows about the alien, too. Even feels a weak connection. But who is he going to tell? Since he can't talk. Making Spike the mascot also keeps him busy enough to not stray away from his duties as mascot, and making appearances and entertaining people.

2020.09.02 20:23 4everpurple GM Needs Around The League

As we all know, the Kings are in a GM search right now. A lot of names have been thrown out, and I wanted to examine the needs of other teams and how this could affect competition as the Kings look to hire their guy.
I want to note that I will use GM and President of Basketball Ops (PBO) interchangeably as they are essentially the same thing depending on the organization. What I really mean is lead decision maker. Sometimes that's the GM, sometimes it's the PBO, sometimes it's even someone else.
So I want to go through each team by division and look at who will be looking to add a GM.
Eastern Division
Raptors, Celtics, Nets, Sixers, Knicks. Raptors would never get rid of Masai Ujiri, Celtics would never get rid of Danny Ainge. Those are easy off the bat. Sean Marks is newer to Brooklyn but he's done a great job with the rebuild and just got them KD and Kyrie. So he's safe there. Sixers are pretty murky with Elton Brand as I think he's done a horrible job trying to continue The Process. However, I think they would've made a move by now if they were going to. So it looks like Brand is going to get another year. Knicks just hired Leon Rose as PBO and unless he looks to continue building out the Front Office with big names, it sounds like they're set too.
No likely threats in the Eastern Division.
Central Division
Bucks, Pacers, Bulls, Pistons, Cavaliers. Jon Horst has to be safe in Milwaukee, not his fault the team is underperforming a bit here in the bubble. He's built a great team around Giannis. Kevin Pritchard in Indiana has had the Pacers as a perennial solid team. Seeing as he just made the move to fire McMillan, I assume this was a decision made with the owner and that he will have the power to bring in his new coach. Looks safe. Bulls and Pistons both just made their moves to bring in a new FO, with GM Marc Eversley and VPBO Arturas Karnisovas in Chicago, and Troy Weaver as GM in Detroit. Both of those teams look like they got their guy. Koby Altman in Cleveland might be another story, as I don't think he's done very well in his role either, though it's another example of "if they didn't do it by now, they probably won't do it this year." Looks like they'll give him another season as well.
One potential, but unlikely, threat
Southeast Division
Heat, Magic, Hornets, Wizards, Hawks
This is where things get a bit more murky. Pat Riley/Andy Elisburg in Miami aren't going anywhere soon. Magic perhaps give John Hammond some more time seeing as they did win a game against the 1 seed and they just lost Jonathan Isaac. Kupchak is both GM and PBOS of the Hornets. I'll be honest I don't really know what they're doing. But MJ is pretty cheap and they only recently brought in Kupchak and MJ's buddy Buzz Peterson. I would think they're safe. Wizards just promoted Tommy Sheppard and they've gotta give him a chance to see Wall and Beal with this supporting cast. Safe. Travis Schlenk is iffy in Atlanta cause I don't think he's done great outside of getting Trae, but I think this is the season where ownership needs to see some results, otherwise he might be out. Safe for one more year though. Overall a couple more "haven't done anything yet, so they probably won't".
Perhaps 2 potential threats? Neither are particularly likely though.
Northwest Division
Nuggets, Thunder, Jazz, Blazers, Timberwolves. Back on track here. I think Murray and the Nuggets just bought Tim Connelly some more time with their round 1 series win last night. They also just hired Calvin Booth as GM last year. Sam Presti has some of the highest job security in the NBA in OKC, especially with all the future picks they still have. Dennis Lindsey (been there a while) and Justin Zanik (promoted last year) should both be safe even though they just in the first round. Spida went nuts as we know and they were even missing Bogdanovic. I think they'll keep the FO intact. Neil Olshey has done as well as he could (in recent years at least) building around Dame and CJ with their enormous extensions. He's gotta be safe. And lastly Gersson Rosas in Minnesota just got hired and it sounds like he has the full trust of ownership, plus they have the 1st pick now. Safe.
Likely no threats.
Pacific Division
Lakers, Clippers, Warriors, Suns. First 3 year are safe. Period. I don't think Pelinka has done great process-wise but the results are good. Clippers have an elite staff with The Logo, Lawrence Frank, and Michael Winger. Bob Meyers is obviously safe in GS as they look to contend again. All 3 safe. I don't think James Jones has done well in Phoenix, but coming off the Bubble success, everyone is happy and feeling good, so he's gonna get at least one more year.
No potential threats.
Southwest Division
Rockets, Mavericks, Grizzlies, Spurs, Pelicans. This is really the main point of me posting this. I think Daryl Morey could be on the outs in Houston, especially if the Rockets lose tonight. Their owner is cheap and pissed because of the Hong Kong tweets, plus he is a restaurant/casino owner so he lost a TON of money due to the pandemic, plus if they get bounced in the first round then he's gonna look to make changes. That starts with Morey imo. He's the guy I want above all else. Moving on, Donnie Nelson in Dallas is safe. I don't need to get into why. Zach Kleiman and Jason Wexler have done a great job with their quicker than expected rebuild in Memphis. Their new and safe. RC Buford in San Antonio is as safe as it gets. Not going anywhere. David Griffin and Trajan Landgon are both new in NOLA and highly respected around the league. Safe.
1 potential threat in Houston, though if they get rid of Morey he's the guy I want.
TLDR: Basically the point of posting this was with Daryl Morey in mind. I really think it's possible that he gets fired, and I think if he wants to find a new job right away, the Kings could be in prime position to hire him. I found only 1 legitimate threat for a new GM and that's Houston themselves. Most teams have already made moves to hire new GM's and the ones that haven't yet probably won't at this point. Maaaybe 2 other teams who are candidates. If Vivek likes Hinkie he'll love Morey who is all about analytics.
Root for the Thunder tonight.

To start, I'm gonna type the name of our startup. Then I'll add our tagline, gotta make sure it's catchy. It's for a travel app we're developing, and I want our logo to look dynamic and techy. Now check this out. I can tell Wix logo maker exactly what I like so it understands our style even better. We're going to use our logo on our website, social media, and of course our app. Drum roll please. Wow so many options! That's the one! The best part, I can make our logo exactly the way we want, by adding another icon, and some additional text. Now we're talking. We're giving away merch at a conferencce. With Wix print shop we can print our logo on t-shirts, business cards, even mugs. Once they're finished, they'll ship right to our office. It's turned out amazing. I love how it looks on our new Wix webiste. Go to wix dot com logo maker and create your professional logo today.

2020.08.25 12:49 ablestmage Earthquake Voice District Mgr Blasts Double-Downing Blowhard Mgr

This story was told to me by a fellow vendor, who loves to wildly embellish stories. As Car Talk would say, this "sophomoric, folkloric" yarn could just be a tall tale if it came from his mouth, but it was too fun not to share, so I'm saying up front the accuracy is super sketchy, and I'm writing as if he were telling it to you. All Pre-C19. Some subtle details have the obfuscated so it wouldn't get back to him, as he was timid about letting me write it in case it got back to him.
We are both pull-up vendors, meaning we are employed by (different ones) the maker of a product to travel to different market locations and stock specifically that brand and nothing else. Makers of beer, frozen pizzas, fizzy drinks, chips, crackers, snack cakes like Hostess or Little Debbie, and more, all employ pull-up vendors. We don't work directly for the business location, and get asked questions all the time where other things are, explaining we're just vendors, and it's often a case of "oops sorry" and they move on. We might be the reason regular employees get asked if they work there.
Anyway, the blow-hard floor manager will be IFG for Inspector F-ing Gadget not being able to piece together this stumper of a mystery, and the other cast will be obvious.
I (him speaking now) was late to do my rounds on this one day, so I went in to [membership bulk store] after their normal early closing hours on a Sunday and they let me in because they knew me as a vendor, and they don't close internally until super late. I grabbed the product from the back, and kinda dashed out to the aisle location to get it filled quickly.
One of the real employees pulling around a big thing of cardboard paused nearby and called out, "Hey, we're still cleaning up and straightening; we're not stocking out anything yet." I didn't realize he was yelling at me, so I kept stocking. Then he comes over to me and gets close, and says, "I told you we aren't stocking out yet," so I say back to him, "I'm not with you guys. Go get your manager to explain it to you."
It was a little rude, yes, but I was in a hurry to get the product out to make it in time for my next three stops still. The senior managers and security at this store all know me because I sign in and out at the front, and have had this one stop for 5+ years.
Cardboard Boy skitters off to parts unknown, and as I'm getting down to the last several boxes on my flat cart thing, up comes IFG. "Why are you putting out product? [Cardboard Boy] says you ignored him when he told you we aren't stocking out yet. We're still cleaning up."
"I don't work for you. I'm in a hurry to get done here so I can leave," I explain hastily, frantically folding empties and opening fresh cases. A few of the other real employees gathered, all apparently new, or not brave enough to speak up, or as I found out later, wanting IFG to dig himself another hole.
"You don't LEAVE, until I SAY you leave. I'm the floor manager today, and everyone here works under me. Put those boxes DOWN, go put on your VEST like you're supposed to, and help these guys clean up. We're stocking out later, not now," IFG blabbers.
"I don't for you. Look at my shirt. Look at WHAT I'm stocking," I say. I have on a company polo with the brand embroidered on it. "Go ask your store manager, if this is confusing to you."
"I don't need to look at your damn shirt. You're out of uniform. You're going to do WHAT I tell you to, WHEN I tell you. Put the boxes DOWN. You're not even allowed to stock those items," he blasted back, clearly not piecing together all of the clues lying plainly before him.
I rest my box against the shelf for a second and between grabs of eaches, pause to say, "Go get your store manager to explain it to you. I don't work for you. I'm in a hurry."
IFG: "Come with me to the office. You're not working for me, or the company either after this."
"I'll do you one better. Call SECURITY to come get me," as I'm still removing eaches from cases and putting them up.
IFG: "OFFICE. NOW."
I set the eaches I have in my hand on the shelf, set my case down, and cup both hands around my mouth and yell into the high metal unfinished ceilings, "SECURITY?"
IFG: "Oh, you are in some deep SH-- now!"
I say, "Why would I call for security, if I'm the one in trouble, dumbass?" I picked the partial case up and clapped against the side of it like a marching band bass drum, to the beats of the words, "I. Don't. Work. For. You," and then get back to stocking the rest of my cases left to go.
It turned out the store was being secretly visited by the district manager, who was in a meeting with the store manager and security and watching IFG's every move via camera, waiting for him to slip up, after numerous reports of him being excessively aggressive. A bunch of other employees had gathered, as security, the store manager, and the district manager approached.
IFG immediately goes into humble service mode when seeing the district person, and states that I'm refusing to follow orders.
"Are you okay?" the store manager asks me. I say, "I'm fine, except mister big-shot over here doesn't seem to grasp that I don't work here. I showed him my embroidered shirt, and said I don't work for him, and apparently his big head was too heavy for him to see straight, and is calling me into the office to fire me. You want to take over? I'm in a rush here, running later than usual."
"Your timing couldn't have been better, actually," the store manager says. "IFG? Look at this man. What is on his shirt?" I turn so I could show him the logo.
"It's not a store uniform, and he's stocking when we are in clean-up. We don't stock until much later," IFG blubbers, actually doubling-down!
"This man doesn't," and leans closer to emphasize, "WEAR, our uniform! HE. DOESN'T. WORK. FOR. US."
I was still stocking my cases but paused for a moment to look at IFG and gave him a Nicolas Cage wide-eyed YA THINK? expression, but IFG was holding his ground.
"He's stocking the wrong product. He wouldn't stop when I told him to stop!" apparently listening to nothing being said. I'm not sure if a vein popping out of a district manager's forehead gives some kind of sonar signal, but I felt it straining to burst from this distance. I collapsed my remaining boxes and quickly moved the flat thingy off to get the next load from the back.
"OFFICE. NOW," are the words I hear coming ***from IFG*** of all people, out to me as I'm trying to push my way thru the gathered rubberneckers. I turn, and the district manager remaining mysteriously quiet during this, holds up a hand as if 'ignore him,' and I continue on my way.
As I'm rounding the corner to the back, the district manager turns to IFG and in the loudest f-ing Don LaFontaine Optimus Prime Darth Vader Thunder voice I have ever heard come from a human without a megaphone, bellows, "OFFICE, NOW," to IFG. I hear a few of the others nearing up to ground zero, whisper to themselves 'daaayum' at the loudness of his voice, and another joke 'oh he done angered Mufasa now, here we go,' and I had a good laugh.
I didn't get a look at any of the management after it, and the rest of the stocking went normally aside from security coming up to me saying we were all good, no hard feelings, etc, but I imagine IFG walking out of that place with no job, and maybe an inch tall and his clothes in tatters and hair messed up like an exploding cigar cartoon prank victim or something, as I never saw him again at that store.
Before you ask-- I couldn't come to do that store later because of its place in order of travel. And yes, I also could have stated, "I work for [vendor company name]" directly, instead of the more ambiguous, "I don't work for you" but I was rushing plus it was a teench fun to see him not be able to piece the puzzle together right in front of him, and got to hear such a hot head get taken down thirty notches in doing so.

Step by step instructions to Get Your Toy Made

So you have a toy idea and you're certain it will be a hit — that is a decent beginning, however it will likely be the most effortless piece of going to showcase. From that point you'll need to cause models, to convince a toy organization to purchase or permit your thought, or — for the individuals who like to pioneer their own path — discover makers and merchants who can create the toy and get it on racks. Also, remember about strategies, showcasing, and account.
It's a hard street, yet scarcely unimaginable. The accompanying five specialists have discovered accomplishment with their toy manifestations, and have provided their tips and counsel to help smooth a fruitful toy-production pathway for you click here.

Makie Dolls — Alice Taylor

Our item is Makies, the doll you make your-self. Makies are (as of now) completely 3D-printed, and redid by their proprietors, who pick and make their own facial highlights, skin shading, eye shading, hairdo and shading, attire — even hand and foot presents.
The thought started in 2010. I drew a couple of dolls, and sent a few representations to a gifted 3D modeler that I found on the Shapeways gathering. He demonstrated up the portrayals into 3D utilizing Rhino; we at that point jointed the doll's appendages, and I sent the last model off to iMaterialise for printing. A 18-inch, bare, eyeless doll returned, and it cost me 220 euros. That was sufficient to conclude this would one be able to day be a business.
From that point forward we've been repeating live with clients. We put Makies live in least reasonable item in mid-2012. We explored different avenues regarding skin shading by heating up all-white printed dolls in tea and espresso. We have Cubes and MakerBots in the workplace, and we model every day on them, printing shoes, gems, pets, and then some.
The group is presently 16 individuals solid. We utilize 3D Studio Max, Unity, Solidworks, and Adobe Creative Suite programming. We print each doll on-request and send it direct to the client's home.

GoldieBlox — Debbie Sterling

I made GoldieBlox as an approach to connect the sexual orientation hole in STEM fields. The toys present designing ideas through narrating and building, and children work close by Goldie, a young lady engineer who tackles issues by building basic machines. The main story follows Goldie as she manufactures a turning machine to assist her with hounding waste time.
I composed and outlined it myself, and the model was produced using wood and materials around my loft. When the thought was settled, we put it on Kickstarter. Inside four days, we raised more than $258,000, outperforming our objective and permitting us to begin creation. We currently have a few toys accessible at Toys R Us, Amazon, and in excess of a thousand retailers across the country, and we're eager to deliver three more this month: GoldieBlox and the Movie Machine, GoldieBlox and the Builder's Survival Kit, and our absolute first activity figure of Goldie (who accompanies a zip line!).

Dino Construction Company — Bruce Lund

Dino Construction Company came out of a discussion over 20 years back about most loved toys. Dinosaurs and development vehicles were two of my generally critical.
We thought about what it may resemble in the event that they were consolidated. We did two or three portrayals, including one called TWrex, and demonstrated them to a couple of organizations. They evoked no intrigue.
We staggered back upon that sketch like clockwork and consistently cherished the look. At last, after two decades, we chose to manufacture one and included an engine, audio cues, and what we called "look for and eat innovation." (Top mystery, can't state more.) Many toy organizations cherished it, however nobody required something like this. It wouldn't fit in their current line, or it was excessively costly — for one explanation after another, it was consistently a "pass."
We understood that to sell it, we would need to make a line of them, so we assembled four or five other Dino vehicles, including littler ones so they'd be more affordable. Still no karma. Our database demonstrates we indicated it multiple times since 2007, the main year we utilized a database to keep records.
At that point one day we had a gathering with a little instructive toy organization. Somebody in our group thought to introduce them this item, and they cherished the look. Go figure. I presumably could never have imagined to give them that item. They took out all the mechanics and hardware, and made it barbie camping accessories .

Robot Turtles — Dan Shapiro

Robot Turtles is a tabletop game that instructs programming to preschoolers. It didn't begin that way, however. It was conceived on a sluggish end of the week a year ago when I was attempting to consider something fun and distinctive to do with my 4-year-old twins. Adaptation 1.0 was inkjet printouts. My children adored it, so I told companions who thought the game was an extraordinary thought. I moved up to photograph paper and a laminator and imparted duplicates to colleagues at Google. At that point I chose to get somewhat more genuine, recruiting a craftsman on oDesk, requesting models on The Game Crafter, and rebranding to "Robot Turtles" out of appreciation for the programming language, Logo.
At last I chose to check whether there was sufficient enthusiasm on Kickstarter to warrant a genuine creation run. There was: Robot Turtles turned into the top rated table game in Kickstarter history and is currently accessible in stores.

Hoard Holler — Bob Knetzger

As an autonomous toy creator throughout the previous 30 years, I've endeavored to concoct thoughts that could be authorized to toy organizations. Here's a contextual investigation of a toy thought from clear paper right to TV plug:
Once while tuning in to a rambling talk my brain meandered. Is there any utilization for these exhausting sounds? Possibly I could get the vibration of a sound to make something move. Model train designs have highlighted cows that move by vibration and Tudor Games sells vibrating electric football stages. Might I be able to utilize the vibration from simply the sound of your voice to control a game? I recorded the thought and made a couple of representations while I was considering it.
Afterward, I did some snappy designs to work out the structure, at that point went right to a model. I manufactured wooden structures, warmed plastic in my kitchen broiler, and utilized a Shop-Vac to vacuum-structure some plastic parts.

2020.08.20 01:18 gayuhoti 3 Piece Kitchen Knife Set Reddit

Here are eight high quality sets reddit that we feel are available at every price point in today’s marketplace. These include:

PRICE
Just as a brand name isn’t a guarantee of good quality, your decision also shouldn’t be based on price alone.

Prices for sets can range from under $100 to well over $1,000, with many very fine examples falling in the $300-$500 area.

And while there’s a market for the under $100 sets, construction and quality are likely to be questionable, and should be avoided when possible.

Look for a set that meets the standards outlined above, and that works with your budget.

Now, to help with your decision making, here are reviews of five different sets with varying price points that meet most, if not all, of the components needed for quality and value.

KITCHEN KNIFE SET REVIEWS
MESSERMEISTER SAN MORITZ ELITE
From Messermeister, we have their superbly functional, efficient, and handsome 9-piece set in the San Moritz Elite line, complete with a wooden block.
Messermeister San Moritz Elite 9-Piece Knife Block Set available from Amazon
The set consists of an 8″ chefs’ knife (read more about this marquee beauty), a 7″ Kullenschliff santoku with granton edge, a 6″ utility knife, a 5″ scalloped utility cutter that’s perfect for tomatoes, a 3.5” paring knife, a 9″ bread knife, a 10″ steel, the take-apart kitchen scissors, and a 16 slot wood knife block, so you can add more pieces in the future.
This set will cover the full range of kitchen tasks on a day to day basis, but Messermeister also offers sets in the San Moritz Elite line that will suit any need.
Messermeister San Moritz Elite 3-Piece Starter Knife Set
You can find the basics in a two-piece set consisting of a chef and paring knife, a three-piece set that adds a utility blade, and a four-piece set that adds a scalloped-edge bread knife to the three-piece set.
Of course, if you’re looking for something more substantial than starter sets in this professional line, there’s the deluxe 23-piece set that includes boning and serrated-edge utility knives, a carving set as well as eight steak knives, all in a handsome 22-slot wooden block.
The San Moritz Elite blades are constructed from the traditional one-piece, hot-drop forging technique, and hammered from a single billet of high-carbon German steel.
Using the X50CRMOV15 stainless steel alloy, they provide top quality stain resistance as well outstanding sharpness, edge retention and ease of sharpening. And each one has been individually handcrafted by skilled cutlery artisans in Solingen, Germany.
The contemporary handles are completely molded around the tang for ergonomic comfort and a secure grip, and are made from POM (polyoxymethylene); a thermoplastic with outstanding industrial strength and stability that won’t crack or break, even after extended use.
Messermeister San Moritz Elite 23-Piece Knife Block Set available on Amazon
Every knife has a hand-polished “Elite” edge that will slice through anything on your cutting board, thick or thin. Ground to a tight 15° angle, they provide the impressive cutting abilities of Japanese blades, but with robust German steel construction – the best of two worlds.
The spine is also hand-polished, providing a smooth and comfortable gripping surface that professional chefs demand.
With a three-quarter tang extension, the blades are bolstered to the handles for maximum balance and power – but the bolsters only travel halfway down the heel of the blade, providing a clean edge for sharpening and full use of the entire length of the blade.
A unique feature of this line is the thicker and more substantial blades than many of their competitors, and greater blade depth for the chef and santoku blades. This provides outstanding weight, balance, and torque for cutting through challenging pieces such as large winter squash, or sticky starches and proteins.
And the San Moritz Elite line comes with the distinctive name plate at the butt end of each handle so you can personalize your set with etched initials.
All Messermeister knives come with a limited lifetime warranty, as well as free lifetime sharpening and refurbishing – you only have to pay for the return shipping.
The set and block measures 19.5 x 10 x 4.5 inches, and weighs just over 9 pounds. Hand wash and dry promptly. Made in Germany.
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
As there aren’t a lot of reviews for this particular set, the following comments are a compilation from a variety of reviews that cover the blades in this set, all from verified purchasers at Amazon.
Messermeister cutlery seems to be a bit of a dark horse when compared to other German brands, as it doesn’t have the same high-profile reputation. But for those who purchase them, the Messermeister blades always come out on top – and they haven’t sold out their soul to the big conglomerates.
They always receive high praise for their excellent sharpness, edge retention and the ease of honing with which the edge is restored.
The quality of construction and craftsmanship is another highlight, with the beautiful balance, control, and stability consistently getting top marks, as does the hand-finishing. There’s no need to sand off burrs on any of the spines as they come completely finished and ready to use.
The chef’s knife is truly a work of art, ideal for rock-chopping due to the angle of the blade, the large sweet spot, and the ultra-sharp edge.
The santoku is another favorite. While not quite as versatile as the chefs’ blade, the tip will quickly chop through large mounds of vegetables with a minimum of effort.
All of these pieces are comfortable to use with a natural-feeling “hand”, and the POM handles provide excellent comfort and security.
While not really a complaint, several users have commented on the weight of the Elite blades as being heftier than many other brands, and may not be appropriate for those who appreciate lighter-weight tools.
SUMMARY
The San Moritz Elite knives in this set are built to professional standards that will please the most discerning of cooks.
With outstanding fit and finish, the quality is top notch, but it’s the edges that really elevate their value, placing them head and shoulders above competitors’ pieces in the same price range.
Expensive? Not if they last 100 years, and these knives are definitely of heirloom quality. Sturdy and durable, and with Messermeister’s awesome sharpening and refurbishing program, these knives will truly last a lifetime.
Check prices and read customer reviews at Amazon now.
MERCER GENESIS
From Mercer Cutlery we have this striking 6-piece kitchen set, in a contemporary tempered glass block.
It consists of the glass block, and five of the most popular cutters in the Genesis line – a 3.5” paring knife, a 5” utility knife, an 8” chef’s knife, an 8” serrated bread knife, and a 6” boning knife, with no redundancies in style or size.
Mercer Culinary Genesis 6-Piece Forged Knife Block Set, Tempered Glass Block
Every blade is constructed of high-carbon stainless German steel for superb rust and corrosion protection, and stain-free performance.
Precision forged for strength and durability, each piece has a full tang running the length of the handle for outstanding balance and resilience, with brawny bolsters for extra balance and protection.
Each taper-ground edge is hand polished and offers long-lasting sharpness and easy honing, as well as increased efficiency for all slicing, cutting and chopping functions.
Mercer Culinary Genesis 8-Inch Forged Chef’s Knife
The black Santoprene handles combine the characteristics of vulcanized rubber and thermoplastics, and are ergonomically designed for superior comfort and a secure non-slip grip, even when hands are wet.
The Santoprene will not break down from continued exposure to kitchen oils, and can withstand fluctuations between hot and cold temperatures, year after year.
The sleek glass block presents a beautiful and functional display for the knives, adding a unique, stylish touch to your kitchen.
Want a little more “warmth” than the simple glass block? Mercer also provides an option to have a bit of wood inserted
Mercer Culinary Genesis 6-Piece Forged Knife Block Set, Wood Block with Tempered Glass
Mercer has been the main supplier to cooking academies in the US for 30 years, and the Genesis line provides the same professional quality and value for home cooks.
Measurements are 10 x 4 x 15”, and the set weighs nine pounds.
This set is NSF certified and should be hand washed to ensure longevity. Made in Taiwan, it comes with Mercer’s limited lifetime warranty.
At the time of writing, this set is ranking very favorably with purchasers for construction, quality of materials, ease of use, and their swanky appearance.
They have a well-balanced feel that covers all the basic cutting tasks, and are encouraging some to cook more often, just for the sheer pleasure of handling them.
The knives have a good heft with nice sized handles for easy and comfortable gripping, and they arrive with a very sharp edge that is easily maintained with regular honing.
Mercer Culinary Genesis 3.5-Inch Forged Paring Knife
The tempered glass block is easy to assemble, and comes apart quickly for a thorough cleaning when needed – and it displays the knives beautifully, adding aesthetics to function.
However, be aware that they draw from the block perpendicular to the counter – not diagonally as with most traditional blocks.
That means you’ll need adequate clearance under cupboards, if that’s where you plan to keep them. Most users feel this isn’t a big deal and they quickly got used to the design difference, but a few couldn’t adjust to it.
Mercer Culinary Genesis 6-Inch Forged Boning Knife
A professional and sturdy product, they offer very good value for the price – particularly when compared to other sets of similar materials and construction.

There are very few complaints to report on at this time. Some were disappointed that the edges didn’t stay sharp after a few months of use, but none of these mentioned honing their blades – and I suspect they were not aware that regular maintenance is required to keep a blade keen.

A few mentioned staining on the blades. But again, this seems to be more of a lack of understanding about how to care for the knives rather than a product flaw, as one person griped about discoloration after leaving one in a sink full of water overnight – a sure method for staining steel!

SUMMARY
The Mercer Genesis 6-piece collection offers professional quality knives at a bargain price. And despite the Made in Taiwan tag, quality control seems to be top-notch, with users raving about how pleasurable these tools are to use.
Well made from quality materials by an established company, they offer at-home chefs a great alternative to higher priced tools.

VICTORINOX
From Victorinox, the makers of the original Swiss Army Knife, we have this functional and attractive eight-piece set of the most commonly used kitchen cutters.

Included in the set are a 4” parer, a 6” boning knife, an 8” chef’s knife, an 8” bread knife, a 10” slicing knife, a 10” sharpening steel, kitchen shears, and a nine-slot slanted beechwood block.
Victorinox 8-Piece Knife Block Set
The star of this set is the 8” Fibrox chef’s knife, known as the “Swiss Classic” for its outstanding performance in consumer market testing.

Each blade is crafted from stamped high-carbon stainless steel and is hand finished by the skilled craftsmen at Victorinox in Switzerland. The formula for this alloy is x50CrMoV15, with 15% chromium (Cr) for high levels of stain resistance, plus molybdenum (Mo) and vanadium (V)for hardness.
Victorinox Fibrox Straight Edge Chef’s Knife, 8-Inch
The steel is also treated with a special multi-step tempering process, for durability and to ensure that he edge can be sharpened time after time.

Fitted with a full tang, these tools are lightweight yet tough and sturdy, with a fine balance.

The Fibrox handles are molded for ergonomic comfort and a positive grip to ease wrist tension, and they have a finger guard for safety where the blade and handle meet.

They also provide a low maintenance sanitary surface by minimizing crevices that may trap food particles and bacteria, and they are NSF certified.

The beechwood block has designated slots for all five knives plus the steel and shears, and an additional two slots for extra pieces.

The slots are angled for quick access and provide a safe environment to keep edges sharp.

Overall measurements are 14.5 x 9 x 6”, and it weighs six pounds.

Promoted as dishwasher safe, handwashing is recommended. Made in Switzerland, this set comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
The following notes are a compilation of the most frequently repeated comments by verified purchasers at Amazon.

To date, this set receives top marks for versatility, comfortable use and superb sharpness.

All cutters in this set are useful with no redundancy in styles, but the chef’s knife is the marquee piece.

Light in weight, it’s strong with a nice bit of flex to the blade, and gives fatigue-free performance over long periods of prepping. The paring knife is the runner up in terms of frequent use.

Sharp right out of the box, they retain their sharpness well. A keen edge is easily and quickly restored with a bit of honing.

Victorinox Cutlery 10-Inch Round Tip Slicing Knife, Black Fibrox Handle

Having two extra slots in the block is a nice feature and they’ll hold longer blades with ease – and it doesn’t take up a lot of room on the counter.

Well made with a nice balance, the blades have a professional feel and are easy to use, maintain and clean.

The handles are quite comfortable, with a good shape and texture for a secure non-slip grip.

While these knives may not look ultra-expensive because of the resin handles, their quality and functionality is outstanding and they give a very high value for the price.

Victorinox 8″ Serrated, Slant Tip, Bread Blade

The main complaint is in regard to the kitchen shears. Of lower quality than the other pieces, they seem to be on the cheap side and don’t come apart for cleaning.

SUMMARY
While this set is not top of the line in terms of price or aesthetics, they offer well-crafted performance and very good quality for daily use.

If you don’t need a designer label (or price tag), then the Victorinox 8-piece knife block set will give years of reliable operation to beginners and advanced cooks alike.

ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS FOUR STAR
From Zwilling J.A. Henckels we have this simple, efficient and handsome 3-piece essentials starter set, from their Four Star line.

With one of the oldest trademarks in the world (incorporated in 1793), Zwilling’s Four Star line celebrates its fortieth anniversary in 2016. And nothing has changed in terms of production values or construction since their inception in 1976.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Four Star 3-Piece Knife Set

This introductory set consists of an 8” chef’s knife, a 6” serrated utility knife and a 4” paring knife, packaged in a gift box. And while this set might be basic, the three pieces cover all of your necessary kitchen cutting tasks.

Precision forged in Germany using Zwilling’s Sigmaforge process, the blades are crafted from high-carbon stainless steel and ice-hardened, then tempered to 57 HRC on the Rockwell scale.

This produces a stain and corrosion resistant steel with exceptional hardness, flexibility and toughness, optimal sharpness, and blades that are virtually unbreakable.

The molded handle is constructed of polypropylene and permanently bonded to the three-quarter tang, and it has just the right amount of texture for a comfortable, non-slip grip.

And the finely balanced classic bolstefinger guard transitions seamlessly to the handle, easily accommodating all of your favorite cutting grips.

Precision lasering creates an edge with perfect geometry, ensuring each side is sharpened to the ideal cutting angle for maximum long-lasting sharpness, which also improves cutting edge retention.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Four Star 7-Piece Knife Set with Block

Should you want a more fully featured set, the Four Star line is also offered as a 7-piece group complete with wooden block and includes the 8″ Chef’s, a 6″ non-serrated utility, a 5″ serrated utility, and a 3″ parer along with a sharpening steel.

Dishwasher safe, though handwashing is recommended. Made in Germany with a limited lifetime warranty.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
The following notes are taken from the most frequent comments from verified purchasers at Amazon.

At the time of writing, the Henckles Four Star essentials set has very good reviews for quality of craftsmanship, sharpness and versatility.

This Four Star line is mid-range for Henckles in terms of price, and they have the sturdy, well-crafted construction Zwilling Henckles is known for, making this a good investment.

They are very sharp, hold an edge well, and sharpen up quickly and easily with a few strokes on a honing steel.

The composite handles are well-shaped, comfortable, and hold up admirably to normal wear and tear.

They have good balance and a good feel in the hand, making cutting easy and effortless.

SUMMARY
A bare bones set with no storage block, these three knives cover the essentials for most kitchen work.

Overall a good option for a starter set, or to replace the three elementary pieces most commonly used for prep work.

WUSTHOF CLASSIC
From the iconic Wusthof manufacturers in Germany comes this 7-piece set from their Classic line, complete with a slim wooden storage block.

The set includes the slim design 6-slot block, a 3.5” paring knife, a 5” serrated utility knife, a 6” Kiritsuke utility knife, an 8” bread knife, an 8” chef’s knife, and come-apart kitchen shears, all of which offer good versatility without duplication of style.

Wusthof Classic 7-piece Slim Knife Block Set (Cherry)

With a slender footprint on the counter and measuring only 9.5 x 3.5”, the block is crafted from your choice of six different woods in a modern style which adds to the striking profile of the Wusthof blades.

Each knife is precision forged from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel (X50 Cr MoV 15) to a Rockwell hardness of 58 and tempered in production to ensure sharpness, enduring toughness, and ease of sharpening.

This steel formula contains 15% chromium for superb stain resistance, plus molybdenum and vanadium to ensure hardness, corrosion resistance and durability.

The bolsters are perfectly weighted for optimal balance and performance, and the full tang provides extra stability and safety.

The cutting edges are sharpened using precision laser-edge technology (PEtec) for blades that are 20% sharper than standard edges.

This provides exceptionally keen initial cutting performance, longer edge retention, and the full usage of the blade from the point of the tip to the finger guard.

With a 14° edge on each side, the tight angle reduces friction and drag for smooth, undemanding cutting. And every blade is hand buffed and polished in the final process.

The handles are triple riveted through the tang and constructed of tough and long-lasting polyoxymethylene (POM), a thermoplastic polymer known for its strength and hardness that has excellent resistance to fading and discoloration.

Hand wash only. Made in Germany, they come with Wusthof’s limited lifetime warranty.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
The following notes are compiled from the reviews of verified purchasers on Amazon.

At the time of writing, the knives have received rave reviews for quality construction, sharpness and a well-balanced feel.

The set covers all of the key pieces for daily use, without including duplicates or novelty blades that are rarely used.

The balance on each blade is finely tuned, and they have a nice weight for rhythmic dicing and chopping.

Out of the box, the edges are razor sharp and the finish is flawless – they look, and feel, like high-end professional tools.

The chef’s knife is the go-to workhorse, the utility knife has a lovely tapered blade that’s ideal for nimble work like deboning and filleting, and the bread knife works well on baguettes or large round loaves.

The kitchen shears also get some high-fives – strong enough to break down a chicken and fine enough to snip herbs. The pivot pin is sturdy and stays together under duress, but comes apart easily for thorough cleaning.

A relatively minor issue (not enough for demerit marks from purchasers) – the red and white trident logo on the knives is just a sticker and it comes off after some use.

The only other complaint is about the block. Some shoppers are very happy with it, complementing the compact size and attractive appearance. But others feel it lacks the quality of the knives, with an inferior finish.

SUMMARY
The Wusthof Classic 7-piece set has all the individual elements that work well together to make up a useful, high-quality collection. And it easily handles all of your kitchen tasks – despite the somewhat chintzy logo sticker.

The compact size of the block works well for those concerned about a large footprint on the counter, and the entire set offers very good value for the mid-range price tag.

A nice set of well-made, durable knives that are good for daily use.

Global G-3 – 8 1/4 inch, 21cm Carving Knife

During construction, the blades are rapidly quenched with a sub-zero treatment for excellent hardness, then tempered to add toughness – making them virtually unbreakable in daily use.

Unique in their construction, every knife is stamped from a single, seamless piece of steel without bolster or tang.

The textured stainless-steel handles with their distinctive dimples give a sure and comfortable grip, and they are actually hollow.

Global G-9 – 8-3/4 inch, 22cm Bread Knife

Filled with a precise amount of sand for exquisite balance, they still retain a light weight that provides comfort, and reduces hand fatigue during extended use.

And their smooth contours and seamless construction eliminate hiding spots for food and dirt, resulting in the highest levels of safety and hygiene.

SHUN CLASSIC
Shun brings us this elegant and contemporary 7-piece essentials set of cutlery from their Classic line, all set in an attractive 11-slot bamboo block.

Shun Classic 7-Piece Block Set with Bamboo Block

This classic set is made up of an 8” chef’s knife, a 9” bread knife, a 6” utility knife, a 3.5” paring knife, a 9” combination honing steel, and multipurpose kitchen shears. The knives all feature gorgeous Damascus clad blades constructed of their proprietary, high-performance VG-Max steel.

The VG-Max is the core of each blade, providing superb sharpness and edge retention, then clad with Damascus stainless steel – which is ground and bead-blasted to reveal the flowing watermark pattern typical of this high-end layered alloy.

VG-Max is the latest in the line of “super steels” that have gained well-deserved recognition among the best cutlery steel available. Building on the highly successful VG10, VG-Max includes additional carbon for improved strength and durability, hardened to 60-61 on the Rockwell hardness scale.

The Damascus stainless steel not only protects and supports the extremely hard cutting core, it also improves stain resistance.

If you’re interested in larger set, a 10-Piece set is also available.

Lighter, thinner, and sharper than European blades, the 16° edge is exceptionally sharp and long lasting, making it more efficient at cutting and offering consistent, precision performance.

However, it should be pointed out that this thin and very sharp steel does not have the same impact resistance as thicker blades, or steel tempered to lower levels on the Rockwell scale. This makes chipping a very real possibility. So consider carefully how you plan to use these knives, as they’re not suited for cutting through dense materials.

The chef’s knife is the keystone piece to this set, and it is perfect for multi-tasking in the kitchen. It will slice, dice, and chop, plus much more. And the wide blade is perfect for scooping food off the cutting board when transferring it to a pan or dish.

Every handle (except the shears) is constructed of strong and durable pakkawood. Molded in a D-shape for optimal comfort, and a sure and steady grip, they’ve been fitted over a full composite tang for impressive balance and stability.

And with only a partial bolster, you can utilize the full length of each blade for slicing and chopping, as well as full-length honing.

The utility, paring, and bread knives fill out all the basic functions necessary for a well-equipped kitchen. And the set is rounded out by other key elements, the honing steel and multipurpose scissors.

The combination honing steel has two surfaces to smoothly realign the edges of your blades, prolonging the knife’s sharpness. Use the smooth surface for daily honing, and the micro-ribbed surface for a more coarse weekly honing.

The multipurpose shears are a versatile tool that’s ideal for kitchen use. Not only do they cut impressively with the superb Shun edge, they also have a built-in nutcracker, jar opener, and lid lifter, a bone notch, and two screwdriver tips.

And with one serrated edge, they’ll easily cut through tough, fibrous material. The blades separate easily for cleaning, but lock together securely when in use. Constructed of tough and durable stainless steel and a full tang, they’re fitted with molded handles that provide stability, comfort, and a secure, nonslip grip.

This essential set comes in its own laminated bamboo block, with a few extra slots so you can continue to expand your collection as desired. Bamboo provides easy-care performance that doesn’t shrink or swell like hardwoods, which makes it ideal for storing kitchen accessories.

The set measures 17x9x8” and weighs just over 11 pounds. With a limited lifetime warranty, all components are made in Japan. And Shun also has a free sharpening program for all their cutlery – the only cost to the customer is for shipping.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
The following notes are a compilation of the most frequent comments from verified purchasers at Amazon.

Once again, Shun gets top marks for the quality of their forged blades, creating tools that are a pleasure for home cooks to use.

And the outstanding sharpness of their knives, right out of the box, is a feature that really sets them apart from the competition.

A few reviewers have emphasized that learning how to use the included honing steel correctly will help to retain those super-sharp edges between actual sharpenings.

The D-shaped pakkawood handles are sturdy and comfortable, with a natural-feeling balance.

And the design aesthetics are another highlight, with the Damascus blades and composite wooden handles having a very attractive appearance that is retained even with repeated usage.

On the downside, a few customers have reported that the thin and hard steel does make them prone to chipping.

However, one customer pointed out that Shun replaced his knives that had been sent in for sharpening, without even asking for an inspection or replacements.

SUMMARY
The Shun Classic 7-piece collection is a popular choice for high-end Japanese knives that have been crafted with quality and precision.

Beautifully designed, these knives also deliver precision cutting with exceptional performance.

Light and delicate, they do require a bit of getting used to if Western-style knives have been your standard issue. But when you do, they’ll be your go-to blades for a lifetime.

SHUN PREMIER
The Premier Gourmet Essential 7-Piece Block Set with block is another beautiful collection from Shun, makers of exquisite Japanese cutlery.

Shun Premier Essential 7-Piece Block Set

This lovely line features Damascus cladding, and each blade bears the signature hand-hammered “tsuchine” finish. These dimples help to release food from the blades, and they have the distinctive feel of traditional sword-making blended with contemporary technology. Attractive and efficient, from start to finish.

This particular set includes a 4” paring knife, a 6.5” utility knife, an 8” chef’s knife, a 9” bread knife, a honing steel, take-apart kitchen shears and the 11-slot bamboo block.

Shun Premier Paring Knife, 4-Inch

Each blade is constructed by layering different metal alloys together, then forging them into a single piece. The Premier line is made with a 69-layer process, and a core of high-carbon VG-Max steel to improve strength and durability.

The proprietary VG-Max alloy has more chromium for wear and corrosion resistance, enhanced levels of cobalt for greater strength, and increased tungsten for a very fine-grained steel capable of achieving an extremely fine and sharp edge. Molybdenum improves corrosion resistance and strength, while vanadium improves impact resistance.

Shun Premier Utility Knife, 6-1/2-Inch

The blades are then hardened to 60-61 on the Rockwell hardness scale for superb sharpening abilities, and the edges on all of the Premier blades are ground to a tight 16° for superior cutting performance.

It should be pointed out that because of their high-carbon content, hardness, and thin blade construction, Shun knives can take an exceptionally sharp edge – and retain that edge for a very long time. However, these qualities also mean they have a more brittle nature, making them more prone to chipping.

Shun Premier Chef’s Knife, 8-Inch

Designed primarily for slicing, care needs to be taken in how they’re used in the kitchen, to avoid damage and disappointment.

Each knife has a full composite tang, and contoured ambidextrous pakkawood handles that nestle nicely into the palm. They provide comfort and security regardless of the type of grip (link to article) you use, or whether you’re right- or left-handed.

The combination honing steel has an angle guide built into the pakkawood handle, so you can hone to the correct 16° angle. It combines a smooth surface for daily honing and a micro-ribbed surface for weekly honing, so you can actually go longer between proper sharpenings.

Shun Premier Bread Knife, 9-Inch

The kitchen shears are made of durable stainless steel with a notch on the blade for cutting through thin poultry bones, and they fully separate for easy cleaning. The interlocking screw can easily be adjusted, to change the tension to suit your personal cutting preference.

Shun Kitchen Shears

The entire set of four cutters, plus the steel and shears, fits in the 11-slot bamboo block for easy-care storage. Bamboo is very easy to look after, and the block comes with rubber feet to protect your surfaces – and there are a few open slots for when you want to expand your collection, too.

This set measures approximately 13.5x5x11.5”, and weighs just over 10 pounds.

Hand wash and dry only, and never leave high-carbon blades sitting in water. Made in Japan with Shun’s limited lifetime warranty.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
The following is a compilation of the most frequent remarks from verified purchasers on Amazon.

Without question, the sharpness of these blades is their marquee feature. Every reviewer comments on their “scary sharpness,” comparing the edge to that of a scalpel. Clearly, the sharp edge exceeds expectations time after time.

Balance and design also get top marks. The knives are lightweight for dexterity, well-balanced, and they perform admirably, with a comfortable grip that makes maneuvering easy.

And their aesthetics are another highlight feature. The distinctive hammered finish provides less drag while cutting and provides a surface where moisture laden vegetables are less likely to stick.

However, these blades do possess some of the qualities of a “delicate flower.” Thin and fragile, they have received a number of complaints about the tips bending and breaking, as well as chips and breaks in the blade edge. Some of these complaints seem warranted, while others seem to be more the result of a lack of experience with Japanese knives.

Summary

Incredibly thin and sharp blades with stylized detailing, the Premier line of knives from Shun provides exceptional cutting performance, making them a joy to handle.

This particular set includes all of the basic knives required for day to day tasks, as well as a few specialty items that help to make cooking more enjoyable, ensuring you’ll always have the right tool for the job.

But again, just to be clear, these knives are not for everyone. They’re definitely not built for cutting through tough, dense material. And they will, if mishandled even a little bit, betray their delicate nature with chips, breaks, and bent tips.

At the higher end of the price scale, these are professional-grade blades that require a certain level of expertise to get the most out of them. So if you can bring a little skill to your cutting habits, then you should be fully satisfied with these handsome blades for a lifetime.

2020.08.16 02:21 1ightning32 [30 wears, Review] MTO Indonesian Iron Ranger by Prof Barnet - A Chonky Take on a Classic Silhouette

Full Album: PICS (Want to skip the sob story and head straight to the review? Head to the last two paragraphs!)
As the saying goes, longtime GYW lurker, first time poster. for many people, Iron Rangers epitomize rugged, masculine GYW footwear, however, for those of us with abnormally narrow or wide feet it can be a frustrating and disappointing experience to acquire a pair. So, my oddly-shaped foot friends, this is where my tail began: After 2 different IR fittings and 3 different orders, I abandoned my quest for real IRs and started to look for a similarly distinctive boot to fit my 11.5B, low volume feet. Over the course of several weeks including Instagram boot surfing (shoutout to Ben @stitchdown for helping me out with this, oh and for having the raddest shoe podcast ever made!) and, of course plenty of hours digging through posts from you fabulous GYW folks here on reddit, I found Prof Barnets Boots (@prof.barnets) on ig. In particular, I found his 'Ranger' boot model (hmm still trying to figure out what they're named after...) and fell in love with this picture https://imgur.com/a/FEPDFcp. I scoured the web for anything relating to Prof Barnets, and found NOTHING (a true novelty in our day and age). Prof Barnets make some truly unique styles, although the Ranger is definitely not one of them, and given all the hype around Indonesian MTO bootmakers. figured it was high-time someone reviewed them. So here we are.
The ordering process was challenging due to communication barriers, but from other's experiences with Indonesian makers, this was not surprising. I first messaged over ig, and later switched to Whatsapp. I was slightly frustrated to find out the leather and outsole options at the time were limited due to shipping issues, but seeing as there is a global pandemic it's kind of hard to blame anyone without being a dick so I made do with the options available. After sending my foot tracings, he sized me as a EU 44.5 and after a little prodding on my end I figured out all the MTO options. Here is what I went with:
Upper: 2 mill, Red Brown Pull-up (I decided to go with a local tannery for the integrity of the review, plus it saved me $150 for Horween)
Lining: Maroon pig nubuck (wth why not?)
Lacing: 4 eyelets, 3 speed hooks, brass hardware
Tongue: half-gusset
Welt and midsole: Brazilian leather (note this was the only option at the time)
Outsole: Dr. Sole (I wanted a Vibram 430 but he was out of Vibram, so I figured I would give Dr. Sole a shot, although it was $49 more)
Construction: Goodyear Flat welt (vs storm welt b/c I was shooting for the IR look)
Heel block: Dr. Sole, 3 cm high
Last: Great Dane last (all his lasts are named after (wo)man's best friend)
Other: No embossed logos on the sides
Production time: 1.5 month (arrived 1.5 months on the dot w/ a tracking number)
Cost: $177 base + $49 for Dr. Sole + $63.5 for 5 day shipping = $289.5
When I picked the Dr. Sole halfsoles, I didn't know it included a double midsole (perhaps this was my fault for not understanding his construction techniques, but it would've been nice to be told "hey, this will be CHONKY"). But when I opened the box my first impression was GODDAMN HE A THICC BOY. Would I have sent them back if I didn't have to pay almost $70 in shipping? Maybe. But after getting over my intial shock, I thought to myself "I shall tame these chonkiest (is that a word?) of boots and make them my own!" And that I have done. I have included in my album (PICS) the photos from my first wear up to the 30th wear followed by their first conditioning.
This is getting quite long, so briefly I will discuss my thoughts over the 1.5 months of wear: The construction is wonderful, no complaints with stitching or the welt (welt joints aren't perfect, but these aren't Vibergs either). The leather does leave something to be desired. For a 'pull-up' leather there is just no pull-up... But, for the price I paid (minus shipping and the outsole) the leather could be a lot worse. Overall, the leather feels and has functioned pretty hardy! I just changed laces after conditioning because the old ones straight up sucked. The leather insole has a 1/3 poron insert that has helped with heel comfort, but it's a stiff leather insole, and given the double midsole, I still have a lot of breaking in to do. The fit also left something to be desired. For a MTO boot with measurements I expected a superb fit, and while my right foot fit fine, the left was a little loose (fortunately some tongue pads fixed this). First time with Dr. Sole, but the comfort and grip is fabulous... so fabulous in fact I spent an afternoon trying to get dog shit out of it that I stepped in while walking to my local cobbler (PSA: please don't be THAT GUY and clean up after your dog's asshole).
I have not babied these boots, I got them for work and they have seen everything from rain storms, gardening, and walking to the lab everyday to lab-grade ethanol (stains evident on the welt), working on the farm, and DOG SHIT (seriously, I am still pissed about this. I couldn't get the smell out of my nose for days). Did I accomplish what I set out to do? I think so. I found a viable alternative to IRs (note, I could've chosen a less chonky sole to look more Iron Ranger(y)), I achieved a suitable fit for odd-shaped feet, and have hopefully helped elucidate a lesser known bootmaker.
Album again
Please leave any questions or comments below and I will do my best to get back to you ASAP - assuming I don't step in any more dog shit. I am open to feedback! Thank you GYWers!

2020.08.10 21:28 dansalg Branding a City

The Ultimate Guide to Branding a City, Smart City, or Municipality
People and products are brands. However, this concept strongly applies to cities as well.
Since the early 2000s, many cities have recognized the importance of developing a brand image, increasing the potential to attract residents, bolster business, and boost tourism. When a city is able to create a brand for themselves, they are implementing Place Branding. Within the last decade, many cities have made drastic moves to overhaul their current brand to help stimulate investment and growth.
Similar to most mainstream marketing campaigns, branding or rebranding a city requires plenty of thought and consideration. Unfortunately, many cities that attempt to rebrand do not carry out sufficient due diligence and research. According to Forbes, an alarmingly high number of branding campaigns fail (86% to be precise). That said, there are some notable successes as well. We will discuss them so you can get a better idea of how you can conduct your branding or rebranding campaign.
A successful branding campaign can turn any city into an attractive destination. Once launched, successful campaigns will revive their cities, attracting people to visit, live and work. A strong identity is vital in a rebranding campaign, especially when competing with various destinations for public attention in business and tourism or re-launching a city after a regeneration initiative.
There are many great and famous cities that have developed their brand organically. Paris is considered the ‘city of love’, while Hong Kong is famous for trade. When branding a city, it’s almost impossible to encapsulate a city’s brand within the bounds of a single word. This is because most cities are not only multi-dimensional, but they are also constantly changing and evolving. Therefore, in most cases, trying to develop city brands synthetically or artificially is often a risky proposition and, at times, presumptuous business. With that said, some cities have been very successful at it. For example, New York with its “I Love New York” campaign has been very effective. The same can be said about Glasgow, which used a similar approach to branding.
Rebranding Albuquerque, New Mexico
Albuquerque has worked hard to implement its city-wide branding strategy. While the TV series ‘Breaking Bad’ has been the main association when people think of Albuquerque, the city has envisioned being famous for a lot more than just Walter White, architecture and art, hot air balloons, and wineries. Their primary goal and motivation for rebranding are to develop a strong brand image that focuses on unpretentiousness, openness, and innovation.
Tim Keller, Albuquerque’s mayor, has noted that community efforts have managed to create a suitable environment in the recent past that helps connect talent with the most suitable resources while providing them the support and tools they require to grow. The city is getting increasingly recognized as a valuable emerging city for a variety of startups on a national scale. Albuquerque has friendly people, low cost of living, access to great leaders and top-notch facilities and technology. The city is an ideal buy for startups and innovative thinkers and a great location for growth.
READ BRANDING A CITY – ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO.Rebranding New York City, US
New York City is easily one of the world’s largest branded cities. In the case of New York’s image, the brand key is direction and integration. The branding is driven, in part, by the mix of eclectic and diverse, ranging from artists to investment bankers, and everyone in-between. All of them, irrespective of their age, gender or creed, have what it takes to realize their dreams and ambitions, provided they put their mind to it. But this just scratches the surface of what New York truly has to offer.
New York City exudes a “can-do” and positive attitude, which manifests in everything ranging from excellent customer service (which may or may not be sarcastic) to towering skyscrapers. This unique combination is so commendable and admired that it is seamlessly branded on almost everything from a coffee mug to a baseball cap.
Over the last several decades, New York City has used a number of campaigns in order to urge folks to reevaluate and assess what they (and their city) are all about. The origins of “I Love NY” are entrenched in the early 1970s. This was the time when this city needed to instill pride and value in itself. This was done to promote the idea that NYC was a place you would like to visit, live in, and become a part of.
READ BRANDING A CITY – NEW YORK, NEW YORKRebranding Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam is another city that had a positive outcome from place branding. I Amsterdam is both a motto as well as a trademark. It was introduced back in 2004 to rebrand the city as a growing hub for tourists and businesses, and to instill a sense of civic pride. You will see the registered logo emblazoned on a variety of tourist purchases, from mugs and t-shirts to bags and pencils.
The logo is found in ‘Instagram-ready’ and large-scale public installations all over town. The concept is clever, yet simple like the ‘I love NY’ campaign and is definitely here to stay.
As you can see in the video below, the ‘I Amsterdam’ campaign instills the drive and feeling of belonging to a community of individuals, who are passionate about the place they live, learn, work, and play. The goal of the campaign is to show how diverse and inclusive Amsterdam is, all while simultaneously trying to grow their tourism sector.
Rebranding Liverpool, United Kingdom
Liverpool is another successfully branded city. A city known for its nautical ports, Liverpool was suffering from social and economic deprivation in the 1980s. The solution? Rebranding Liverpool to restore it as a top economic destination. In doing so, Liverpool has thrived, with bustling with bars, a modern waterfront, and became a top financial and retail hub. It is a city that caters to everyone.
Whether on a business trip or personal excursion, all tourists should know where the heartbeat of a city is. That is exactly what you can get from Liverpool, along with stunning architecture, a rich history, and a strong sense of pride.
Branding or Rebranding A City
So, how do you brand or rebrand a city? Here are some factors to keep in mind:
Maintain A Clear Objective With Your Branding
When embarking on a branding initiative, it is vital to know exactly what you are trying to achieve and the specific outcomes you are looking for from your branding or rebranding strategy. These aims and objectives should be omnipresent and clear to allow key stakeholders for the city make timely and effective decisions.
The goals of a branding strategy can be diverse. For example, one objective can be to attract major investments in the city, while the other could entail changing typical perceptions people have formed about the city. A smart idea is to consider other cities or states that have managed to successfully achieve similar goals via a branding or rebranding exercise and then use them as a benchmark for your activities.
Know Which Audience Is Best For Your Brand
Knowing your target audience is essential. Although it would be ideal to have the entire world as the target audience, we all know that it will be nearly impossible to come up with a branding strategy that can appeal to everyone. It is important to streamline the specific groups of people that you would like to target and then prioritize them on the basis of importance.
The next step is to investigate and ask your audience what it is they are seeking and how they perceive the relevant city. Will your city be able to cater to their specific needs and preferences effectively? When you figure out your audience, you may decide on the most suitable channel to reach these groups, and devise a more efficient and effective branding strategy.
When Branding, Make Sure You Know The City
If you want to create the ideal or most appealing “persona” for a city, it is vital to first know and understand your city as it exists today. This may entail identifying all the positive aspects linked to the city as well as the negative ones. Similarly, it is important to determine how these perceptions and ideas have changed or evolved historically. You should be able to answer questions such as:
In leveraging this information, you will be better placed to bridge the gap between the way people currently perceive your city and how the ‘perfect city’ is perceived.
Finally, understand what the future of the city is going to look like. Create a list of major goals and next steps that your city is planning. Speak with your audience and see what appeals to them the most.
Benchmarking Metrics For City Branding
The success of any branding or rebranding initiative can be gauged only when there are specific parameters or benchmarks to measure success. It is important to have these benchmarks in place; more importantly, benchmarks must be realistic and have a reasonable timeframe for completion.
Some examples of parameters to keep can include:
It is also vital to ensure all key stakeholders agree on the definition of success. You should always use consistent metrics in order to measure it. You must also incorporate some degree of leeway or flexibility. This would provide both you and the decision makers some space in case you have to shift your focus or direction at any point to maximize your budget effectiveness and impact.
A Website And Social Media Strategy To Match Your New Branding
In order to create a well-rounded campaign, all aspects of your digital marketing should match your physical marketing. This means that your website and social media strategy should be aligned with the campaign, as well.
If your website isn’t updated, any user interest that was generated through the city branding campaign will be lost. It shows a lack of continuity and modernity. Also, most interested users, whether it’s an e-commerce store or a community, will look at social media channels for further information.
If your social media doesn’t align with the same concepts, branding, imagery, tone, and voice as your campaign, then you’re wasting your time. The goal is to completely brand (or rebrand) — not to put a band-aid over dated branding implementations. Consumers are smart, and they’ll likely retract interest if your campaign isn’t cohesive.
Commonalities in Successful City Branding campaignsBRINGING OUT THE IDENTITY OF THE CITY
Cities cannot be defined by a single image or logo. This is what makes successful rebranding so difficult (especially for larger cities). In general, a city can be defined by many attributes, including (but not limited to):
Long story short, a community is hard to define. Creating an identity involves understanding all of the attributes that make up a city or community, and being able to communicate them to the outside world.
STRONG IMAGERY AND VISUALS
There’s a lot to be said about the beautiful imagery of a city, modern typography, and an engaging logo. By solely combining these three attributes, you are able to tell a story to someone who may not know much about what they are looking at.
No, the imagery will most likely not make individuals pack their bags right away and move to the city, but they will definitely spark interest. The goal is to engage the individual in learning more about the city and what it can offer them.
Some Examples Of Successful City Branding Around the World‘M’ – Branding Melbourne, Australia
This particular campaign, launched in 2009, was created through the use of a logo as an icon to represent the city’s modernity, diversity, strength, unification, and creativity. Through the use of a singular letter ‘M’, Melbourne was able to introduce a new form of branding to the city:
READ BRANDING A CITY – MELBOURNE‘C[OPEN]HAGEN’ – Copenhagen, Denmark
The Copenhagen button campaign was clever due to the range of options to communicate Copenhagen’s diverse list of offerings to locals and tourists alike. The reason that this campaign did so well was due to the simplicity of launching the product. Buttons are incredibly cheap to produce, can be handed out in bulk, and are utilized to represent pride for something.
As the campaign evolved, the imagery would evolve as well. Many artist groups, companies, creatives, and others would start to create their own buttons, creating widespread interest towards the campaign.
Turning Physical Marketing Into Digital Marketing
This is actually a huge part of our philosophy here at VisualFizz. The goal of any campaign, especially one that relies on a combination of physical and digital marketing, is to ensure that it is ‘shareable’. Creating specific goals to get users to share the campaign with their friends or followers is vital to a city branding campaign.
For example, if you put new signage up on storefronts in your community, this is great for awareness among individuals who already (most likely) visit those stores. This will boost local morale and pride, but may not get people sharing on their social channels.
An example of well-known shareable campaigns include:
WHEN SEARCHING #IAMSTERDAM ON INSTAGRAM, YOU RECEIVE OVER 1 MILLION TAGS! PHOTO CREDIT TO u/ANJENIDOMAWhat is ‘Place Doing’ or Place Marketing?
There is no doubt that place branding can do great things for a city’s image. Most cities that go through a successful city rebranding campaign find that their residents, as well as tourists, have an elevated sense of pride for their city. The issue is– what if there are little or nearly no reasons to make your city a destination for tourism?
That is where “Place Doing” or Place Marketing comes in. Place Doing, an awkward phrase for a concept that emerged from place branding, is considered the immersive way of bringing in new individuals to a town that otherwise would not appeal to outside visitors.
In most cases, place doing involves inclusive and immersive ways to attract people, such as live events, a new community attitude, new food destinations, interest-based tourism (i.e. agro-tourism), or business-related growth (for example, a major corporation moving to town).
So what’s the challenge? While major cities such as Paris, London, Chicago, LA, Tokyo, and Sydney already have the money to fund major projects, smaller cities like suburbs, state capitals and rural towns do not have those luxuries. In many cases, it takes a public-private partnership, coupled with a strong PR and marketing campaign, to attract newcomers to town.
Consider smaller cities, such as Austin, Chattanooga, and Boulder, cities which in the 90s and early 2000’s were hardly considered tourist destinations.
Austin, which had once been considered a fairly sleepy town in Texas, worked very closely with SXSW, which had grown from a small independent music festival to one of the largest and most popular festivals for tech, music, startups, and food. This alone dramatically helped jumpstart the revitalization of Austin as a city that is now considered cool.
This allows Austin to live up to their slogan:
“Keep Austin Weird.”
Now consider Boulder, Colorado. Boulder was just recently a small, quiet, nature-loving town, just a short driving distance from Denver. Now, it boasts more than six times more high-tech startups per capita than the nation’s average, according to Kauffman Foundation’s 2013 study.
The combination of a growing number of high-tech venture capitalists, natural enclaves, cafes, and not to mention the legalization of Marijuana, has very positively impacted the local economy.
Long story short, place branding is all about creating an immersive experience that can excite perspective tourists and visitors. Whether the city incorporates a large entrepreneurial push or helps push an annual event that is broadcasted and shared by many, one just has to be creative to better understand what their town can offer.
PLACE MARKETING TIPS
Place marketing and place doing sound great, but both require a fair amount of work from all stakeholders. From our point of view, we believe that some of the bureaucracy that some of the more traditional local government groups have may deter startups and innovative companies. It may be in the best interest of the local government to take interest in the partners they work with, as well as the company’s processes.
By creating multiple public-private relationships, the community can stay more involved, as well as feel like they have a stake in how the community develops. Once you create more stakeholders, the snowball effect begins, and projects generally take on more meaning to a greater group of people.
This snowball effect occurs as large groups of stakeholders take pride in their work, coupled with the drive from marketing and PR firms, they are able to reach new markets to encourage growth and sharing
When Rebranding a City, Remember These Tips
No matter what you call it: Rebranding a City, Place Marketing, or Place Doing, this strategy should continue to remain a vital part of your city/town/government entity’s marketing strategy. Diversifying your strategy will allow for a multi-channel approach, which proactively pushes your campaign to new heights.
As you can see, there is a lot to write about and we have only scratched the surface. From taking a psychological approach to rebranding a city to how to properly launch an experiential event (and tracking it the right way), there is always more that can be discussed. If this is interesting to you, or you are part of a committee to improve your own community’s brand, please feel free to contact us.
